"Watching the Lanterns and Enjoying the Journey"
Li Shangyin of the Tang Dynasty?
Moonlight lanterns fill the imperial capital, and fragrant chariots and treasures cover the narrow thoroughfares.
I don’t see the prosperity in my spare time, and I am ashamed to chase the local Sai Zigu.
Translation: In the capital of the emperor, the moonlight is like water everywhere, the lanterns are like mountains, and the gorgeously decorated and fragrant carriages block the broad avenues. In my spare time, I didn't have the opportunity to witness the grand Lantern Festival in the year of Zhongxing, so I had to go with my fellow villagers to watch the temple fair to welcome the Zigu God with shame.
"Watching the Lanterns and Enjoying Music" is an ancient poem written by Li Shangyin of the Tang Dynasty. This poem uses the technique of contrast to describe the mood of the Lantern Festival. Although the poet is in the prosperous imperial capital with a sea of ??lanterns and everywhere, he has no intention of admiring the moon.
Li Shangyin is good at poetry writing, and his parallel prose is also of high literary value. He is one of the most outstanding poets in the late Tang Dynasty. Together with Du Mu, he is known as "Little Li Du", and with Wen Tingyun, he is known as "Wen Li". Because the style of poetry is similar to that of Duan Chengshi and Wen Tingyun of the same period, and all three of them were ranked sixteenth in their families, they were collectively called the "Thirty-sixth Style". His poems are novel in conception and beautiful in style, especially some love poems and untitled poems, which are sentimental, beautiful and moving, and are widely read.
