Golden Peony was bred by the Tea Research Institute of the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences through cross-breeding using Tieguanyin as the female parent and Huangfeng as the male parent. In 2001, it was rated as the first-level excellent germplasm for scientific and technological research in the "Ninth Five-Year Plan", numbered 220. In 2003, it passed the Fujian variety approval. In 2010, it passed the national appraisal and became a national tea tree variety.
This variety is a clone, shrub type, medium-leaf type, early-growing species, diploid, purple-green buds and leaves, fat young shoots, strong tenderness, strong hybrid vigor, strong cutting fecundity, and survival. It has high efficiency and strong adaptability, and is suitable for promotion in tea areas in Fujian, Guangdong and Guangxi.
