Four major poetic systems

In modern literature, poetry, prose, novel and drama are collectively called four major literary genres.

I. Poetry

Poetry is a literary genre, which expresses social life and people's spiritual world with concise language, rich emotions and rich phenomena according to the requirements of certain syllables, tones and rhythms.

Second, prose.

Prose, the freest style, pays no attention to phonology and parallelism, and has no constraints and restrictions. Usually, an article has one or more central ideas, which are expressed by lyric, narrative and logical means.

Third, novels.

Fiction, a literary genre, generally describes the stories of characters and shapes various characters, but there are exceptions. It is a literary work with complete layout, development and theme. Whether the dialogue has a distinct personality and whether each character's words have a unique language style is an important criterion to measure the level of novels.

Compared with other literary genres, the novel has a large capacity, which can show the characters' character and destiny in detail, show the intricate contradictions and conflicts, and describe the social life environment in which the characters live. The advantage of novels is that they can provide a complete and broad social life.

Fourth, drama.

This is another ancient literary form, which mainly expresses the author's thoughts and feelings through dialogues between different roles. Drama can be used for stage performance and reading.

Drama refers to the stage performance art that achieves narrative purpose in the form of language, action, dance, music and puppet. The concept of drama in literature refers to the script created for drama performance, that is, the script. There are various forms of theatrical performances, including drama, opera, ballet, musical, puppet show and so on. It is a comprehensive art in which actors play roles on the stage and perform stories in public.

For example: Shakespeare's plays, Yuanqu, Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera.
