Huai Su, Cao Sheng

Huai Su Zen master, common name Qian, was born in Changsha. Born in the 25th year of Kaiyuan (737). He became a monk in his early years and was shaved as a monk in a temple in Changsha. I don't know when Huai Su became fascinated with calligraphy. In the leisure time of meditation, all of them are used to practice calligraphy. It takes a lot of paper to practice calligraphy. Huai Su couldn't afford so much paper, so he followed the precedent of the ancients who wrote poems with banana leaves and planted 10 mu of banana, replacing paper with leaves. Huai Su drew another board and a square board for writing. Wipe it, wipe it and write again, so that the board and the board can be written together. Huai Su wrote a lot of bad pens. Later, Huai Su buried these abandoned pens at the foot of the mountain and named them "Pen Tomb". Huai Su is open-minded and eager to learn. He used to travel around the world on crutches, visiting contemporary famous teachers, and was guided and encouraged by Yan Zhenqing and Wei Li. From contemporary calligraphers, Huai Su saw the pen and ink left by many famous calligraphers in the previous generation, copied and learned, and appreciated the essence of all kinds of calligraphy. Huai Su is also very observant. He had an epiphany from the changes in summer, which is exactly the same as the brushwork that Zhang Xu got from a female geisha's sword-dancing device.

Huai Su loves cursive writing very much. He inherited the wild grass of the famous cursive writer Zhang Changshi (Zhang Xu), and made some innovations, forming his own unique style, that is, shine on you is better than blue.

Huai Su and Zhang Xu are generous and frank, informal, and especially like what is in the cup. It is said that Zhang Xu's "Drunk and Crazy" was written, or he dipped his head in ink to write a book. When I woke up, I thought God could not be restored. That one called Zhang Dian. " Huai Su was drunk nine times a day, and people often called him a drunken monk. He used to be in dozens of whitewashed corridors in the temple. Every time I feel angry after drinking, I write an urgent book on the powder wall, which is like a snake and stormy. The walls are strewn all over the place, like thousands of troops in Ma Benteng on the battlefield. Therefore, people call Huai Su a "madman". It is said that Huai Su and Zhang Xu are "crazy chasers".

Poets from ancient times to the present are full of praise for Huai Su's cursive achievements. Li Bai, a great poet in the Tang Dynasty, once sang poems praising Huai Su's cursive script: "The young man's name is Huai Su, and the cursive script is chinese odyssey. Mo Chi flies out of the North style fish, and the pen tip kills all the rabbits in the mountains ... "(a cursive song) Han Wo's Huai Su Cursive Screen also praised:" Anyone who has a screen knows that Huai Su is lying. Although it is full of dust, the ink is particularly thick. Strange rocks rush to the autumn stream, and Han Teng Gu Hangge. If you teach water, the word is dragon. " Guan Xiu's Huai Su Cursive Song: "Zhangdian bumps and bumps to the top of Huai Su. Teachers don't talk about Zen and classics, but their strength lies in cursive script. Crazy but afraid of being a fairy, God can help you, stone painting and ink painting must be entered. Golden statues of bamboo leaves are full of fights, half drunk and half wet. Drunk and fierce as a tiger, the powder wall screen does not ask the Lord. ..... Knowing that the name of the master is in the world, what is the pole of the bright moon and the cool wind? " There are even more comments from calligraphy connoisseurs. There is hardly a book on the history of calligraphy that does not mention Huai Su. General manager Lu continued the book review and said: "Huai Su cursive script, with the help of electricity, changes at will." Huang Tingjian's "Inscription and Postscript of the Valley" said: "Huai Su's cursive script has not diminished in the old days (according to Zhang Xu). Covering Zhang Miao is fatter than hiding, but really thinner than hiding. These two people are also the champions of a generation of cursive scripts. " Mi Fei's "Haiyue Book Review" praised "Huai Su's book is like a strong man's sword, with touching colors, but it is always in the festival." Someone's collection of ancient books also said: "Zang Zhen was famous for cursive script at that time, which is especially rare in this world." Jiang commented: "The cursive script is wonderful, and you will win it." Cen Zongdan's book review also describes that "Huai Su is leisurely and comfortable, so he seems to be a true fairy." Shen You's inscription and postscript on calligraphy and painting explained: "The book of Huai Su is so wonderful. Although it is full of changes, it will never leave Wei and Jin Dynasties." Wang Shizhen's Yizhou Mountain Man Draft praised Huai Su's Thousand Articles as "every word wants to be immortal, and the pen wants to fly"; Some people praised Huai Su's Notre Dame by carving flowers in graphite, saying that "it's easy to escape and turn, and it's easy to draw its standard after several rounds of penetration of the King's stronghold". Wen Peng also praised Huai Su's pure classics, saying that "the brushwork is ancient and full of verve, which really has the potential of sudden storms". He said in Banqiao Book Love Story: "The method of grain and grass originated in Huai Su, and Huai Su learned it from it. The beauty of it is that there is no trace of beginning and end. The former Zhang (Zhang Xu) and the latter Huang (Huang Tingjian) should be left to Mr. Pingyuan. There are many comments like the above, and it is really impossible to list them one by one.

Because Huai Su's cursive script is exquisite and unique, it has always been treasured by collectors. In the Song Dynasty alone, the imperial court collected as many as 10 1 species of Huai Su cursive script. Unfortunately, most of Huai Su cursive scripts collected by Song Yufu have been destroyed by the war.

There are seven cursive scripts that have been handed down in Huai Su so far: self-narration, hiding truth, thousand-character writing, bitter bamboo shoots, eating fish, Notre Dame and discussing books. Lun Shu Tie, which is beautiful, extraordinary, unconventional and skillful, is probably Huai Su's early works. This piece was once hidden in the imperial palace in the Song Dynasty, then collected by collectors Zhang Yan in the Yuan Dynasty, Xiangzi Classic in the Ming Dynasty, Gao Shiqi and Anqi in the Qing Dynasty, then hidden in the imperial palace in the Qing Dynasty, and now it is in the Palace Museum in Beijing.

The autobiographical post is characterized by different characters' sizes, exquisite brushwork and inward turning of hidden front, which has a superb effect on Zhang Zhi's exquisite performance, and its careless imitation of Zhang Kuang makes it unique.

Notre Dame is neither like the elegant and fluent pen of On Books nor like the flying pen of Confessions. Indulgence and elegance, have both, write with pen and ink, dance with spirit, and shine with people. Moreover, its word form, size, fat and thin, and casual writing are no better than the arrangement of words and lines. Compared with the first two posts, it is also full of energy. Thus, Huai Su's calligraphy style is not the same.

Among the monks in the Tang Dynasty, besides Huai Su and Guan Xiu, several others were famous for their calligraphy. Among them, the more famous are:

Shi Yaqi, a native of Luoyang, said, "After learning the Dharma, I like to write words and get a classic brushwork. During the reign of Zhao Hua (898-900), he gave two purple robes to the temple cursive script, which was a great honor for a while. Song Yufu Collection 15 cursive script.

Song Dynasty's "Xuanhe Shupu" also thought: "Pale ink and vigorous, although not enough to compete with Zhiyong and Huai Su, is naturally a family law". There were two kinds of cursive scripts in the imperial palace in Song Dynasty.

" Xuanhe Pu Shu commented on his cursive script: "It is light and clear, without any vulgarity. Just like flying clouds reflecting the moon, at first glance it is cold and exciting. " It is also said that the cursive script at the beginning of Wen is "a family of its own". There were 1 species of cursive scripts in the Forbidden City in Song Dynasty.
