The Cultural Background of Contemporary American Poetry
America has always been known as the "melting pot" of multi-ethnic cultures. Ethnic minorities with different colors and cultures interact with the mainstream white society in this land of the United States, and "assimilation" has become the theme of cultural development of many ethnic groups in the United States. However, since the 1960s, there has been a wave of "national rejuvenation" around the world with "cultural diversity" as the guiding ideology. The United States opposes cultural diversity. The Convention on World Cultural Diversity was voted against by the United States, because once passed, it will hinder the irresistible trend of "Hollywood" culture. However, this melting pot will not be eliminated at once.
