Ancient poems describing rural scenery

1. "April in the Countryside"

Song Dynasty: Wengjuan

The mountains are green and the rivers are white, and the rain is like smoke amid the sound of the rules.

In April in the countryside, there are few idle people, so they are planting sericulture and planting fields.

Translation:

The hillsides and fields are lush with vegetation, and the color of the water in the rice fields complements the skylight. The cuckoo cries in the misty drizzle.

April is the busiest time in the countryside. The sericulture work has just ended and it is time to plant rice seedlings.

2. "Village Dwelling"

Qing Dynasty: Gao Ding

On the February day, the grass grows and the orioles fly, and the willows brush the embankments and are intoxicated by the spring smoke.

The children came back early from school and were busy flying kites in the east wind.

Translation:

In February of Yangchun when the vegetation is growing and birds are flying, the willows brushing against the embankment are intoxicated with smoky water vapor.

It was still early when the children in the village came home from school, so they quickly took advantage of the east wind to fly their kites into the blue sky.

3. "Village Night"

Tang Dynasty: Bai Juyi

The frost grass is full of green grass and insects, and there are no people walking south of the village and north of the village.

When I go out alone and look at the wild fields, the moon is bright and the buckwheat flowers are like snow.

Translation:

In the gray-white autumn grass beaten by the frost, insects are whispering, and there are no pedestrians around the mountain village.

I came to the front door alone and looked at the fields in the distance. The buckwheat flowers under the bright moon were as white as snow.

4. "The Event in Jiangcun"

Tang Dynasty: Sikong Shu

After returning from fishing, the boat was not tied up, and Jiangcun was sleeping with the moon setting.

Even if the wind blows away all night, it is only by the shallow water of reed flowers.

Translation:

When the fisherman returned from fishing at night, the moon was already setting in the west. He happened to be sleeping peacefully and was too lazy to tie the rope and let it drift in the wind.

Even if the wind blows all night, the boat will not drift far, and will only stop at the shallow water bank of the reed beach.

5. "Tian Family"

Song Dynasty: Ouyang Xiu

The green mulberry trees reflect the plain river, and the Tian God laughs and makes a noise after the game.

The spring rain has stopped while the doves sing outside the forest, and the apricot blossoms are blooming on the roof of the house in the early morning.

The light rain gradually stopped as the birds chirped outside the forest, and the red sun on the roof brought warmth of spring and the apricot blossoms were in full bloom.
