Translation and Appreciation of Wang Wei's Zhuliguan

House of Bamboo

I leaned alone in the dense bamboo, playing the piano and humming a song.

It's too light for anyone to hear, except my partner, Mingyue.

translate

Sitting alone in a quiet bamboo forest, sometimes playing the piano and sometimes whistling.

Who knows I'm here in the jungle? Only a bright moon accompanied me quietly.

This poem is the seventeenth of the twenty poems in Wangchuan Collection, and it is a five-character quatrain created by the poet Wang Wei when he lived in seclusion in Lanchuan, Lantian in his later years. The work describes the interest of seclusion in the mountains with simple and beautiful poems, showing a state of tranquility and serenity, which is an excellent performance of the poet's pursuit of tranquility, indifference and refinement.

Wang Wei believed in Buddhism in his early years, his thoughts were detached and his career was bumpy. After forty, I lived a semi-official and semi-secluded life. As he himself said, "As time goes by, give me peace and get rid of everything." Therefore, I often sit alone in the deep bamboo forest, playing the guqin and expressing my lonely feelings. With a quiet mind, the poet met the quiet nature of bamboo forest and bright moon and wrote a book with great care. The voice is so low that no one can hear except my partner Mingyue. This is to further render the lonely mood and atmosphere.

"I am leaning alone in the dense bamboo, playing the piano and humming." The poet sat quietly in the deep and dense bamboo forest, playing the pipa and pulling the strings. Obviously, his feelings are insufficient. Otherwise, how could he whistle again? This is an excellent expression of the poet's feelings, with the taste and style of Wei Jin's famous bamboo forest seven sages. I'm enjoying Ruan Ji's "Sleepless at night, I sit up and play the piano", and there's a saying "It's late at night, but I can't sleep, so I get up and play the piano". The poet Ruan Ji expressed "extremely complicated feelings in my heart" in Memories One, which is completely different from Wang Wei. The poet Wang Wei is "unique"

"The sound is too low for anyone to hear, except my partner, Mingyue." In the dense and deep bamboo forest, no one can see from the outside, and it is hard to hear the piano. No one knows what the poet is doing in the bamboo forest at this time. Only Mingyue knows what he is doing and understands his mood at this moment, so he "takes pictures". When I was admiring Ruan Ji's "Looking at the Moon with a Thin Curtain and the Breeze Blowing on the Chest", I explained as follows: "Leng Yue on the thin curtain, the breeze blowing my skirt, playing the piano alone in the moonlight and the breeze, no one can complain about my inner depression. The atmosphere I saw was cold; I feel lonely and cold, and I am extremely lonely. " As Ruan Ji, who plays the piano at night, his works "express loneliness, loneliness, sadness and anxiety that can't find a way out of life", while Wang Wei, who sits alone, plays the piano and shouts, also has a kind of loneliness complex in his heart, but Wang Wei's works show peace of mind and don't ask about the world. Compared with Ruan's poem "Yong Huai Yi"

In the artistic technique of writing, the works create a fascinating and imaginative artistic conception with simple words. In the deep and dense "secluded place", the old man who thought he was playing the piano and whistling sat alone. No one knows it exists, only the bright moon accompanies him. The artistic conception at that time was so fresh and indifferent, so peaceful and carefree. Especially at the end of the sentence, "Except my comrade Mingyue", the poet endowed Mingyue with human ideology and rich emotions. For the poet and his piano music, the bright moon hanging at the end of the bamboo forest seems to be accompanying his confidant and enjoying his piano music.
