Why can't free verse be punctuated?
Xie Jiazhi, Qin Zixian and other teachers: You asked, "Why is there no punctuation at the end of Comrade Ai Qing's Dawn Notice?" I want to talk about my personal understanding. First of all, there are different schools of poetry. Comrade Ai Qing said in "Talking about Poetry with Young Poets" that "the emergence of schools is always the result of the combination of one proposition or another, which can be in form or content". Free verse, without punctuation, is an artistic genre, which runs through its thoughts in artistic practice, and its works reflect a certain unique style. As early as the beginning of this century, Apollinaire, a modernist poet in exile, put forward the idea of eliminating punctuation marks in the exploration of poetry forms, hoping that the musical rhythm of poetry itself could show its joys, sorrows and cadences. Comrade Ai Qing, a famous contemporary poet, has repeatedly stressed that poetry should have "internal rhythm, smooth voice and harmonious voice", which he believes is the so-called "prose beauty" and "oral beauty". Please listen to the song "Notice of Dawn": I came from the dew, and I was led by the last star. I come from the east, from the turbulent sea. I will bring light to the world and warmth to mankind. These three sections depict the image of Liang Ming from three aspects: time, place and scene, and express the passion for victory. It depicts a brilliant world, so full of energy, so charming, so magnificent, it's so beautiful.
