Background information of World Poetry Day

There are still unsatisfied aesthetic needs in the world today. If the social function of interpersonal communication is recognized and it is still a means to mobilize and express knowledge, then poetry can meet this demand.

In the past 20 years, the interest in poetry in many member countries has obviously revived, and the number of poets has also increased. This is the demand of society, which touches young people to return to their roots. Poetry is a means to enable them to see themselves when the irresistible temptation of the outside world keeps them away from themselves.

In addition, as the public more and more appreciate the poetry evening recited by the poet himself, the poet plays a new role as an individual.

The change of society's understanding of traditional values also represents the acceptance of the social structure of recitation and speech.

The media and the general public still tend to refuse to take poets seriously. Therefore, we need to take action to get rid of this outdated image and give poetry its due position in society.

At the 30th session held in Paris from June199 to June10, UNESCO decided to declare March 2 1 day as World Poetry Day.
