Ancient Roman epic

The development of ancient Roman literature was greatly influenced by ancient Greece. In the third century BC, a Greek named Livius Androni Kus laid the foundation for ancient Roman literature.

During the period of * * * and 3 BC, there were many all-round writers in the early Roman literature, such as Aeneas, whose works included tragicomedy and satire. His epic Chronicle traced back to the past of Rome, starting with Aeneas' experience and ending with the war in the author's life, with strong literary color, but today there are only less than 6 lines left. Secondly, there is Plautus, whose literary skills are outstanding, mainly plays.

1 BC-17 AD, the golden age, is a classical or brilliant period in the development history of Latin and Latin literature in a broad sense, covering the activities of two famous figures, namely "Cicero period" (7- 3 BC) and "Augustus period" (31-14 BC). The famous writers in this period are Lucretius, Catullus, Ovid, Horace, Virgil, etc. Among them, Virgil (7- 19 BC) is the greatest poet in ancient Rome. His main works include 1 chapters of pastoral poems, 4 volumes of pastoral poems and the epic Aeneas. The epic Aeneas has 12 volumes, about 1, lines, which was written by the author in accordance with Octavian's will for 11 years. The whole poem traces the glorious history of the founding of Rome. This epic has made great achievements in art, and it is the first literati epic different from the ancient Greek natural epic in the history of European literature. This epic is modeled on Homer's epic. The first six volumes are similar to Odysseus about the wandering life of the protagonist, and the last six volumes are similar to the Ilion about the war between Trojans and Latinos. The epic takes Aeneas, the hero of the Ilion, as the protagonist, adopts the narrative form and uses Homeric metaphor, contrast and repetition, but it still shows strong characteristics of Roman literature.

from 17 to 13 ad, the silver period was also called the silver Latin period. Famous litterateurs in this period included seneca in plays, Lucan, Mattiali and Euvenius in poetry (the most outstanding satirical poet in Roman history), and Plutarch and Apleus in prose. Seneca's nephew Luken was one of the most outstanding poets of that era, and he wrote the best epic Fa Saglia after Aeneas.
