Bai Juyi's short poems

Among the great poets who have made great achievements in the past dynasties, Bai Juyi, a famous poet in the Tang Dynasty with concubines, can rank among the top.

With great sympathy for women, Bai Juyi wrote poems such as "The White-haired Man of Shang Yang" and "The Concubine of the Cemetery", urging ladies-in-waiting to "come through thick and thin, come through thick and thin, come through thick and thin." He happened to meet a pipa girl in Jiangtou, Xunyang, and expressed his sadness for the musician "She finally married a businessman (should be a concubine)". It is such a poet who is honest for the officials and speaks for the people, and also likes to take concubines and raise concubines.

Tang Mengbang's Poem on the Feeling of Technology and Things: "Bai Shangshu (Juyi) Su Fanren is good at singing and prostitutes are good at dancing. It tastes like a poem: cherry Su Fan mouth, willow small waist. " Maggie Su Fan's mouth is small and bright like a cherry; Xiaoman's waist is weak and slender as a willow. Modern people learn from Bai Juyi the cherry mouth, small waist or willow waist that girls say.

Bai Juyi is a lover. He not only loves Su Fan and Xiaoman, but also loves good-looking women.

On one occasion, Bai Juyi went to Xuzhou Shoushuai Zhang Cheng's house as a guest, and Zhang's concubine Guan performed a song and dance for the guests. Bai Juyi was amazed and said that Guan was "drunk and charming, but the wind blew peony flowers."

Two years later, Zhang Cheng died of illness in Xuzhou, and the Zhang family's wives and concubines were in their proper places, but Guan insisted on keeping the festival. She lives in Yanzilou, a suburb of Xuzhou, with an elderly servant and leads a simple life. Yanzilou is a villa built by Zhang Cheng for Guan before his death. Guan Yuan is a prostitute and was accepted as a concubine by Zhang Na. After her husband died, she was able to live alone in the Yanzi Building in 15. True love turns prostitutes into virgins.

Bai Juyi was deeply moved by Guan's affection, but he thought, since Guan is so infatuated, why not go to the underworld to pursue Rizo and accompany him? Wouldn't that be more complete? According to the rhyme of Guan, he presented poems and chanted peace. The poem is written like this: gold does not hesitate to buy slices, as beautiful as four or five flowers. Singing and dancing are exhausting. Once you leave, you will not follow.

Bai Juyi probably didn't write this poem to force Guan to be a martyr. While reading, Guan said with tears: "I have been observing the festival for Rizo for more than ten years, not because I don't want to go with my life, but because I am afraid that after a thousand years, people will talk too much about their husbands, and having a dead concubine as a martyr will not damage their husbands' morality." ! So he wrote a poem and answered Bai Juyi: "Children don't understand the sky and are covered in mud and snow." Then, he died of hunger strike (see "Gu Yan Le Fu" by Yang Huai).

Bai Juyi was shocked when he heard the news of Guan's death. He felt that he had an unshirkable responsibility, and his heart was full of admiration and guilt. Perhaps because of this experience, when he was old and sick, in order to avoid a tragedy like Guan, he let his young concubine and Xiaoman go their separate ways.

Later, he wrote many poems about it. There is a song "Take the Play Again" that says:

Liu Laochun is deep and the sun is setting.

Let him fly to someone else's house;

Who can learn more about children's games,

Look for the spring breeze and catch the willow flowers.

Bai Juyi, who is in his twilight years, can no longer pursue the spring breeze and catch willow flowers like children, so let them marry others voluntarily. At that time, letting concubines be dismissed and set free was the best destination for such women.

Bai Juyi is honest. He likes beautiful concubines and never hides them. In the preface of "Unforgettable Feelings", he thought that he was old and went back to farming to learn Buddhism. He wanted to grow something and keep quiet, but he was reluctant to part with Su Fan and Xiaoman, and found himself a reason: "Alas! Giving (me) to those who are unholy and can't forget their feelings will not be less than feelings. " He can't forget his feelings, nor is he a man who doesn't understand them. This calmness makes people feel real and credible.
