Brief introduction of Li Shangyin's life

Li Shangyin (about 813-858) was born in Xingyang, Zhengzhou, a famous poet in the late Tang Dynasty, and was called "Little Li Du" together with Du Mu.

Li Shangyin was one of the few poets who deliberately pursued the beauty of poetry in the late Tang Dynasty and even the whole Tang Dynasty. He is good at poetry writing, and parallel prose is also of high literary value. His poems are novel in conception and beautiful in style, especially some love poems and untitled poems are touching, beautiful and moving, and are widely read. In the last years of Tang Xuanzong (about 858), Li Shangyin died in Zhengzhou and was buried in Xingyang, his hometown.

Anecdotal allusions

Song Yao Kuan's Xixi Congyu recorded a story that spread in the late Tang Dynasty: a group of literati were boating in Dongting Lake, and some people proposed to write poems on Mulan. So everyone took turns to compose poems while drinking.

At this moment, a poor scholar suddenly sang a poem, then disappeared. Everyone was surprised and later learned that this man was the ghost of Li Shangyin. In another version (Song Li Qi's Poems of Ancient and Modern Times), there is no ghost. When a group of poets met in Chang 'an, someone recited this poem, and everyone found out that he was Li Shangyin.
