This poem was written by Xie Lingyun when he was the governor of Yongjia. It has the characteristics of a suspense poem. Describing the spring scenery he saw when he ascended the pond and upstairs after a long illness, he expressed the poet's conflicting feelings between being an official and reclusive from the world. Suspense poetry is a kind of poetry that specializes in reasoning and was popular in the Jin Dynasty. It is plain and simple, with plain and rational meaning, similar to philosophy lecture notes.
The first two sentences of the poem say that I feel ashamed. I cannot float in the clouds like a scorpion or dive into the abyss like a scorpion. It means that you can neither work hard and be useful to the world nor live in seclusion in the mountains and forests to support yourself. The eighth and ninth sentences are about being moved by the scene. I think of the poems in "July" and "Recruiting the Hermit" and become sentimental.
