Haiyuan County belongs to zhongwei, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is located between east longitude10509'-106/kloc-0' and north latitude 36 06 '-37 04', in the central and southern Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, in the arid zone of central Ningxia, bordering Yuanzhou District of Guyuan City in the east, Xiji County in the south and Jingyuan County and Baiyin City of Gansu Province in the west. It is 95 kilometers long from north to south and 80 kilometers wide from east to west, with a county area of 4,989.6 square kilometers.
Haiyuan County is a county with a large agricultural population, which integrates arid mountainous areas, old revolutionary base areas and Hui inhabited areas, and is also a national key poverty alleviation county. Haiyuan County was named as the "Hometown of China Folk Culture and Art" by the Ministry of Culture because of its "Huaer Paper-cut" folk art, and there are tourist attractions such as Nanhuashan and Lingguang Temple in the territory. In March 2020, Haiyuan County withdrew from the poverty-stricken county sequence.
