Begonia drizzle poem

spring chill

the Chen Dynasty

In February, Baling was windy, and the cold spring was not over.

Haitang blushed without hesitation and drizzled independently.

In early spring and February, the earth has been decorated with new flowers and young leaves. At this time, what people want is good weather and bees and butterflies to decorate the spring more densely. However, things are often not satisfactory. If the cold wave is accompanied by wind and rain, there will be a "cold spring" and these flowers in Ye Er will be destroyed. Chen (1090- 1 138) evaded the soldiers in the "difficulty of Jingkang" in the Northern Song Dynasty and went to Baling (now Yueyang, Hunan) to live in a small garden, calling himself "Garden Duke". He protects and cultivates flowers and trees in the garden. In the cold spring, he is worried about the fate of flowers.

"February Baling" indicates the place and time. The Japanese Wind shows the persistence of the cold in late spring. The word "wind" also includes "rain". For the convenience of writing, the word "wind and rain" is separated. Here and the fourth sentence take care of each other. Under the constant attack of wind and rain, the blooming flowers will wither, the unopened buds will not vomit, and the spring will be bleak. This endless bad weather is a disaster for new flowers and young leaves in spring. It's over. "Afraid", afraid. "Fear of the gardener" is an inverted sentence, which means "make the gardener feel afraid". Next, turn the pen and an exciting scene will come. Unexpectedly, in this very bad weather, begonia flowers actually bloom in the wind and rain, showing the fearless spirit, which shows that the vitality between heaven and earth cannot be stifled. Begonia has been regarded as a famous flower since the Tang and Song Dynasties. Because it is exquisite, some people use it to describe the femininity of women, so the poet uses "rouge color" to describe bright red flowers. Can such flower branches withstand the attack of cold phoenix and cold rain? Can't help but worry. However, in the gloomy scenery, it is not a pity to see the begonia flowers stand upright and independent, although lonely, but also high-spirited, and their "rouge color" has been washed away. The feelings revealed in these two poems are surprise and joy!

Vegetation has no emotion. Its flowering is not dominated by any thought, but can only be endowed with feelings by the poet. He thinks that the cold here and now is open, showing a vigorous spirit and the result of self-sacrifice, and it is also personalized in the "drizzle" and "independent" ignorant vegetation! These two sentences portray Haitang vividly and express the poet's own feelings.

"The difficulty of Jingkang" is really a great change for the Han people under the rule of Song Dynasty. Chen had a tragic feeling in exile. Some of his poems enthusiastically praised the national war against aggression. Although this poem is about the natural scenery in the rain, it also reflects the fighting atmosphere of the times.
