Qingming translation:
During the Qingming Festival, peach, red, plum and white are like smiling faces. Graves overgrown with weeds in the fields make people feel desolate. Spring thunder rolled, waking up the hibernating dragons and snakes, and timely rain moistened the soft vegetation in the suburbs.
In ancient times, Qi people went in and out of graves to beg for food and sacrifice, showing off to their wives and concubines. Some mesons refused to be officials and were burned to death. Who knows whether they are poor and stupid or virtuous and clean? Now there is nothing left but weeds.
Qingming Appreciation:
This is the poet's touching work, and he uses the method of contrast to express the impermanence of life. In the first couplet, the laughter of Tomb-Sweeping Day Tao Li and the sadness of the poor family are compared, revealing a merciless sigh to the world.
With a turn of the pen, the couplets show the scene of the revival of all things in nature, which is in sharp contrast with the barren hills of Artemisia which are full of eyes in the latter two couplets. From Tomb-Sweeping Day's thought of sweeping graves to begging by Qi people, from the thought of banning cold food to pushing mesons to burn them to death, no matter whether they are virtuous or stupid, they are all yellow people in the end.
When the poet saw the vitality of nature, he thought of the inevitable fate of death in the world and expressed a negative and nihilistic thought. Sadness is interwoven between the lines, which is inseparable from the poet's political ups and downs and the strong influence of Zen thought. However, the work embodies the author's life value orientation, whipping the ugliness of life, seemingly negative but actually angry.
