Study hard and be filial to your parents;
When Wang Yangming was studying in a private school, he said to the teacher: I think the first thing is to study and be a saint.
Generally speaking, reading is the most critical way for people to acquire knowledge. But in Wang Yangming's view, we have a conscience in our hearts, omnipotent and omniscient. Therefore, reading is not to acquire knowledge, but to verify and invoke the knowledge that our conscience already has. So Wang Yangming asked people to study hard, just like other people in ancient times asked you to study hard.
Someone once asked Wang Yangming, what should I do if I can? I don't remember when I saw it.
Wang Yangming's answer is: As long as you understand, why do you have to remember? In fact, understanding is secondary, and it is important to be yourself. Her heart is bright. If you just want to remember, you don't have to understand; If you are just looking for understanding, you can't make the noumenon of your own mind bright.
Filial piety, the Analects of Confucius, is called the foundation of being a man. As soon as Wang Yangming came up, he said that there are two important things in life, filial piety and reading. Filial piety is the foundation of educating people, and reading is the way to cultivate a person's original thinking to become a saint's moral concept.
Learn humility and follow etiquette;
Humility is not a gesture, but a noble expression of inner moral cultivation. Not arrogant because of liberal arts knowledge, nor superior because of its prominent position. On the contrary, the more knowledgeable a modest person is, the more modest and prudent he is, and the higher his position is, the more polite he is.
Politeness and etiquette complement each other. Our inner humility is transformed into external etiquette. If there is only external humility and no internal humility, it is hypocrisy.
Nowadays, people's mistakes are mostly caused by a proud word. All kinds of crimes come from pride. Pride is modesty. Modesty is a good medicine for pride. Be humble and respectful not only in appearance and manners, but also in heart. You should always see your own mistakes and really accept other people's humble opinions.
Eat and drink, quit games;
It is said that a gentleman is just without desire, safe without seeking, sensitive and cautious. It is also said that moderate diet is the attitude of the ancients towards diet.
As for quitting the game, it is mainly determined. The game is depressing. Wang Yangming once said that a person's ambition, a person's handsomeness, a person's life, a wooden root and a water source. If a person is addicted to playing games and seeking pleasure, his ambition will be exhausted after a long time, and it will be difficult to achieve a career in the end.
Don't lie, don't covet profits;
Lying is dishonesty and self-deception. Say, if you are sincere, don't deceive yourself. A self-deceiving person can cultivate one's self-cultivation without really being cautious and self-reliant.
Greed for petty profits is easy to lose one's mind and be used by others. During the Warring States Period, King Huiwen of Qin wanted to annex Shu, a country rich in natural resources. It was proposed to build a Shi Niu where golden dung could be stored and dedicated to the Queen of Shu. Shu Hou was cheated and ordered migrant workers to cut mountains and fill valleys to pave the way for the enemy. Losing Huayuan News Network, Qin Huiwen asked the army to follow Xiahou _ to join forces with Shi Niu to destroy Shu. People laughed at the marquis of Shu who was greedy for small profits and lost big profits.
In the fourteenth year of Chongzhen, Sun Yangming's six sons went to Beijing to enter the DPRK, and later took charge of Jiangxi as governor. After his death, he found that he had no savings and was finally buried in his hometown with the support of his close friends in officialdom. It's really awesome
There is an anecdote about anger in history: Jie Jin, a gifted scholar of the Ming Dynasty, lived opposite Cao Shangshu, an official family, when he was a child. Cao Shangshu has a beautiful bamboo garden at home. Jie Jin is very young and likes to recite poems. Every day, he looks at the dense bamboo forest. He is very leisurely, wrote a pair of couplets:
One thousand bamboo sticks are at home and thousands of books is at home.
Many people saw it and praised him as a genius. Cao Shangshu was very unhappy when he found out. He thought, how can I lend him the bamboo forest as a theme? So he deliberately taught his servant to cut the bamboo forest short, and the more he thought about it, the more unhappy he became. He cut it all down and made the child prodigy ugly. Unexpectedly, Jie Jin added four words to the couplet, which became:
A thousand bamboos are short, but the heirloom thousands of books is long.
Cao Shangshu destroyed his bamboo forest for no reason, which made Jie Jin prove his talent. This is totally bad for others. It can be seen that people are angry and can do anything irrational. Anger, perhaps just because of a small matter, but because of a moment of anger, made a life-and-death choice.
Don't complain, be independent.
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was an honest official named Yang Zhen. When he was an official in Jingzhou, he found that Wang Mi was very talented and chose him as the magistrate of Changyi. When Yang Zhen came to Changyi as a satrap, Wang Mi took 10 gold ingot to visit Yang Zhen in the posthouse in the dead of night to thank Yang Zhen for his previous recommendation. Yang Zhen was very angry with Wang Mi and resolutely refused. Wang Mi looked around and said that no one would know whether black people were quiet at night. Yang Zhen righteously said. Heaven knows the earth, you know me. How can you say that no one knows? Then he threw the gold on the ground angrily. Good sentence: Heaven knows the earth, you know me. Although you don't tell me, everyone will know, but if you know in your heart, the whole world will know.
Yang Zhen's speech was not critical of Wang Mi, but of his autonomy. Autonomy knows, and the whole world knows. If we can achieve this degree of self-discipline, will we still worry about the loss of our virtue?
Being a servant is determined to win; Tolerance is a great tool.
Those who are overbearing and look down on others are short-sighted people without cultivation. An educated gentleman will not look down on others because of their low status or lack of talent; Secondly, they look down on others just because they are inferior to him, but they may not be inferior to him in the future. Therefore, this is short-sighted.
A gentleman with ambition knows that his ambition is high and far. Even in an environment superior to others, he will be modest and self-disciplined, quiet and self-disciplined, and will never be overbearing.
Tolerance is a great tool. All rivers run into the sea, with great tolerance. Wang Dan was the prime minister of the Song Dynasty. One day, Song Zhenzong told Wang Dan that although you said she was beautiful, she only said she was evil. This means that although you always say that Kou Zhun is good, Kou Zhun specifically says that you are not good. Wang Dan, don't be angry. He said with a smile, if so, it should be like this. I have been a prime minister for a long time and have handled many political affairs, so I am sure to have many shortcomings. Kou Zhun never hides anything from you, which shows that he is loyal and straightforward, which is what I respect most about him.
On one occasion, the official documents of Zhongshu Province were sent to the Privy Council. After reading it, Kou Zhun reported it to Song Zhenzong, and Wang Dan was blamed for it. Within a month, the documents of the Privy Council were sent to Zhongshu Province, and there were some irregularities. The minister thought it was just tit for tat and happily presented it to Wang Dan, but Wang Dan asked the minister to return the document to the Privy Council and let Kou Zhun revise it before sending it. I can't help feeling ashamed that Kou Zhun remembers what he did.
Be a man, in your heart; Kind-hearted, a good man; Cruel and vicious. Like a tree fruit, the heart is the pedicle; When the pedicle was broken, the fruit fell.
Wang Yangming's metaphor is very apt. He said that the heart is like the stem of a fruit, and human behavior is like a fruit. Bad stems will affect the fruit. The pedicel is broken, and the fruit falls off before it is ripe, or even rotten.
