At dusk Du Fu
The cattle and sheep have been down for a long time,
They have closed their firewood gates.
The wind and moon come from the clear night,
The country is no longer my hometown.
The stone spring flows on the dark wall,
The dew drops on the autumn roots of the grass.
When the head is white and the lamp is bright,
Why should the flowers be so numerous?
Appreciation of Du Fu's Poems
In the autumn of the second year of Dali (767), Du Fu wrote this poem while living in Hangxidongtun, Kuizhou.
"The cattle and sheep have been down for a long time, and each of them has closed the firewood door." It means that groups of cattle and sheep have long returned from the fields, and every household has closed the firewood door. The first couplet uses the sentence "The sun is setting, the sheep and cattle are coming down" from "The Book of Songs". "The cattle and sheep have been down for a long time"
There is only one word "Jiu" in the sentence, which naturally reminds people of the quietness of the mountain village in the evening; and "Everyone has closed the wood door" makes people escape from the quiet village Imagine the joy of indoors. This vaguely reveals a feeling of homesickness and love for relatives.
The bright moon rises quietly, and the poet gazes at this quiet mountain village, and cannot help but touch the sadness of missing his hometown:
"The wind and moon have cleared the night, and the country is no longer my hometown." On the autumn night, the evening breeze is cool , the bright moon is bright, the mountains and rivers in Hanxi are bright and picturesque under the moonlight, but it is not my hometown! Two faint sentences, there is a lot of sadness. Du Fu uses oblique sentences in this couplet. The word "zi" should be in flat tone, but the rising tone is used. The word "fei" should be in flat tone instead of flat tone. "Zi" and "Fei" are the key words in the sentence. Each twist and turn appears to be ups and downs, and the twists and turns express the deep affection for missing the hometown. The country is beautiful, but it is not my hometown.
This "self" and "non" reveal helpless emotions and strong homesickness.
The deeper the night, the quieter the people. The poet watched the autumn scenery of the mountain village with nostalgia, "The stone spring flows on the dark wall, and the grass dew drips on the autumn roots." This means that the cold moonlight fills the mountains and rivers, and the deep spring water Gurgling water flows on the stone wall, and the dewdrops of the autumn night are crystal clear on the grass roots. How desolate and clean the artistic conception is! It gives people a feeling of sadness and depression.
The poet silently walked back to the house and sat alone with a lamp, but he felt even more sad and desolate:
"There is no need for flowers to bloom when the head is white and the lamp is bright." Du Fu lived in Shu for nearly ten years. In his later years, he was old, weak and sick. Now, his gray hair and bright lights complement each other. His relief for the world is slim and his return to his hometown is far away. In front of his eyes, the lights are dim and the flowers are colorful and lush. Not only does the poet not feel happy, but he feels even more troubled. "Why bother?" , said humorously and sadly, full of bitter tears and painful sighs.
"Only Du Ling is the one who can make love language implicit through transition." Wang Fuzhi commented in "Jiangzhai Poetry Talk" that the poet's sense of aging and the sadness of missing his hometown are not expressed positively in the poem. , the concluding sentence only euphemistically says "why flowers are so numerous", which is euphemistic, implicit and thought-provoking.
