"Petrel", also known as "Song of Petrel", is a famous prose poem written by Gorky. "Haiyan" is also the pioneer work of proletarian literature. "Haiyan" advances the content structure layer by layer, echoing back and forth, forming an organic unity.
Gorky took "Petrel" as a clue to the approaching storm. It can be divided into three major scenes according to the development and changes of the sea surface. Haiyan was also arranged in the "future" of the storm──"approaching"── Depicted in three scenes of "imminence". It was widely disseminated by revolutionaries through offset printing and hand-copying, and for a time it became the most popular, propaganda-rich and appealing "leaflet". This poem had an impact on the development of the workers' revolutionary struggle and the peasant movement, and the students' anti-government movement became stronger.
