Sanming is located in the northwest of Fujian Province, bordering Fuzhou in the east, Quanzhou in the south, Longyan in the west, Nanping in the north and Jiangxi in the northwest. It is an emerging industrial city, a national spiritual civilization city and an excellent tourist city in China. In the Spring and Autumn Period, it belonged to Emperor Wudi first, then to Yue State, to Minzhong County in the Qin Dynasty, to Dongye County in the Han Dynasty, to Jian 'an County in the Three Kingdoms Period and to Yanping Prefecture in the Ming Dynasty.
Sanming, rich in forest resources, is an experimental zone for comprehensive reform of collective forest areas in southern China, enjoying the reputation of "green treasure house" in Fujian, with a wide variety of trees and a forest coverage rate of 76.8%. Sanming is rich in mineral resources and enjoys the reputation of "cornucopia" of Fujian minerals. 79 kinds of metallic and nonmetallic minerals have been discovered, which are rich in mineral resources.
Sanming has beautiful mountains and rivers, unique scenery and rich tourism resources. The main attractions are Jinning Jinhu, Jiangle Yuhua Cave, Yong 'an Taoyuan Cave, Lin Yin Shilin, Ninghua Swan Cave, Shaxian Tao Jin, Sanming Castanopsis Nature Reserve, Judas, Ruiyun Cave, Jianning Jinrao Mountain, the source of Minjiang River, Mingxi Ziyun and so on. Among them, Taining Geopark is a world geopark, and Taining Jinhu, Yong 'an Shilin-Taoyuan Cave and Jiangle Yuhua Cave are national scenic spots. Places of interest include Youxi Song Dynasty philosopher Zhu birthplace site, Ming Dynasty Shangshudi, Yong 'an Anzhenbao, Taining national first-class cultural relics protection unit, Ninghua Shibi Hakka ancestral home and other ancient buildings.
