After the September 18th Incident, the Northeast fell and the puppet regime of Manchukuo was established. The common people in the three northeastern provinces lived under the iron hoof of the Japanese army, which also aroused the determination of patriotic compatriots to "recover the rivers and mountains." They were forced to take up arms and fight guerrilla warfare as volunteers. The street poem "Volunteer Army" is a heroic story praising Shanhaiguan compatriots who joined the volunteer army and returned from their enemy-occupied hometown.
The land in Northeast China is fertile, with sorghum red and soybean fragrance. However, since the fall, people have been burned and looted by Japanese invaders, which is no longer the scene of ample food and clothing in the past. As the poet wrote, "China's sorghum grows in the blood." The blood of relatives also aroused the revenge of the volunteers. "Sandstorm/a volunteer/riding home", these three lines set up a heroic image of a volunteer "returning home". He braved the "sandstorm" and rode a fine horse, full of energy. At the end of the poem, the heroic behavior of the volunteers' triumph is shown. "The enemy's head is hanging on his iron gun!" "Language is popular, but it is not weak.
The whole poem is only nine lines, but it describes the whole process of a volunteer soldier's "returning to his hometown" vividly and concretely, and cherishes ink like gold.
