In his later years, Larkin was regarded as a famous poet. If Eliot dominated English poetry in the first half of the 20th century, Larkin dominated postwar poetry in the second half of the 20th century. His three poems: less deceived (1955); Wei Sen's Wedding published in 1964 and High Window published in 1974 established his position in the poetry circle. In this poem, Larkin discusses the fear of death and disappearance. Fear of death is fear of losing reality. Death is nothing, brother! Epicurus, an ancient Greek philosopher, gourmet and hedonist, once said: When I exist, there is no death; When there is death, I no longer exist. This is self-deception. The fear of death in the west often revolves around my words, and the fear is real.
