Introduction by George Meredith

George meredith was a Victorian novelist and poet. He was born in a tailor's family and wrote more than 20 novels and many poems in his life. Unlike other English novelists in the second half of the19th century, he paid no attention to structure and skills, but was famous for his wonderful dialogues, humorous and poetic grand scenes and characterization of characters' psychology. He went far beyond his time and regarded women as completely independent individuals equal to men.
