1. Original text
"Su Muzhe·Burning agarwood"
Song Dynasty: Zhou Bangyan
Burning agarwood to relieve the heat. Birds call out for the clear sky, and they peek into the eaves at dawn. On the leaves, the sun rises and the rain falls, the water surface is clear and round, and the wind lifts each leaf.
My hometown is far away, when will I go? He lives in Wumen and has been traveling in Chang'an for a long time. May the fisherman and the man remember each other? In a small boat, I dreamed of entering Furongpu. 2. Translation
Burn agarwood carefully to eliminate the hot and humid summer heat. The chirping of birds calls for a sunny day (there is an old saying that the chirping of birds can bring rain), and at dawn I secretly listened to their "speech" under the eaves. The first sunshine on the lotus leaves dried up the rain last night. The lotus flowers on the water surface were clear and round. The lotus leaves faced the morning breeze, and each lotus leaf stood out from the water.
(Seeing this scenery) I think of my distant hometown. When can I go back? My family is originally from the Wuyue area, and I have lived in Chang'an for a long time. In May, my childhood friend in my hometown was thinking about me. He rowed a small boat and came to the past lotus pond in my dream (the poem refers to the West Lake of Hangzhou). 3. Appreciation
? Studying and seeking official positions was a common life choice for ancient literati. Once they entered the official career, they would travel around the country and stay away from their hometown for a long time. It was inevitable that they would miss their relatives and scenery in their hometown. Therefore, homesickness became a problem. The eternal theme in ancient poetry can best trigger the screams of wanderers from the end of the world. The feeling of homesickness is often expressed with the help of the hometown scenery that is most impressive in the writer's memory. Zhou Bangyan's "Su Muzhe" is just like this. It uses lotus as the medium to express his deep nostalgia for his hometown of Hangzhou.
The first part of this poem describes the scenery of a midsummer morning: When the poet wakes up early in the morning, he smells the agarwood that was lit last night still filling the air, and the depressing heat has receded. The chirping of birds came from outside the window. It is said that the chirping of birds can predict whether it will be sunny or rainy. Could it be that the weather has cleared up? The poet raised his head and looked out the window, only to see that the sky was getting slightly brighter, and the birds were jumping around on the eaves, shaking their heads and making noise, as if they were also happy that the weather was clear after the rain. In the hot summer season, it was rare to have such a refreshing morning. The poet was walking by the lotus pond, and saw the raindrops on the lotus leaves gradually drying under the rising sun, making them look greener and cleaner, with round lotus leaves covering the water. Lotus flowers stand gracefully among the lotus leaves, trembling slightly in the breeze, making them more graceful and graceful. "The sun rises above the leaves and the rain falls, the water surface is clear and round, and the wind lifts the lotuses one by one" is known as a famous sentence about lotuses. Wang Guowei praised this sentence in "Human Words" as "can really capture the spiritual meaning of lotus". With just a few strokes, The swaying and graceful lotuses, the spirit and beauty of the lotus are fully described, creating a fresh and tranquil state.
The next film turns to the nostalgia and memories of homesickness. The lotus pond in front of him evokes the poet's nostalgia: My hometown is far away, in the south of the Yangtze River where there are fields of lotus leaves. I have been in the capital for a long time. When can I go back? The lotus pond in Bianjing (now Kaifeng, Henan) evokes the poet's homesickness, and his thoughts fly back to his hometown. I wonder if his childhood playmates still remember their trip to the West Lake in May? How many times have I dreamed of returning to my hometown, still rowing a light boat to the lotus pond. The "Ten Miles of Lotus" on West Lake in Hangzhou is famous all over the world. Yang Wanli once wrote: "The lotus leaves touching the sky are infinitely green, and the lotus flowers reflecting the sun are uniquely red." The poet grew up here, and his memory of lotus is connected with his childhood life in the water town. The scene of the lotus pond after the summer rain in the capital reminds the poet of his most affectionate memories of his hometown. The lotus becomes the medium of the poet's homesickness. At the same time, it connects the upper and lower parts of the poem into one, making it a masterpiece about writing about lotus.
This poem is naturally beautiful, without any decoration. It uses simple and unpretentious language to accurately and vividly express the wind spirit of the lotus and the nostalgia of the poet. It has a calm, elegant, natural and fresh charm. , which is regarded as a unique work among Zhou Bangyan's poems that are distinguished by carvings. Chen Yanzhuo praised this poem as "excellent in style, and also shows that Mr. Zhou has a calm mind."

Isn’t the poet’s tranquil mind endowed by the “naturally carved” lotus flowers in his hometown?
