What is a metrical poem?

Rhyme is a kind of modern poetry and a popular genre of Chinese poetry in Tang Dynasty. Named for its strict metrical requirements. Common types are five laws and seven laws. Metric originated from Shen Yue's new poems which emphasized rhythm and antithesis in the period of Qi Yongming in the Southern Dynasties.

Rhyme has strict rules in word, rhyme, even tone and antithesis. Generalized metrical poems are very inclusive, allowing irregularities and three ends to exist. For example, the Yellow Crane Tower in Cui Hao is a typical example. The rhyme feet are usually flat and must be rhymed according to the words in the rhyme book.
