Zhu Zhu interview

Contemporary China's poetry is facing a cold and cheerless situation, even in the literary world, its voice is extremely weak. But China poets did not stop their mission. In September, Zhu Zhu, the last poet in Nanjing, published two books, Salt on Hay and Dizziness, and held a special book release conference at Nanjing Book Fair. Recently, Zhu Zhu told reporters that he is pessimistic about the prospect of contemporary poetry, which is at MINUS 30 degrees.

When talking about the situation of China's poetry, Zhu Zhu said that poetry should exist in the cycle of "poet-critic-publisher-reader", but now it is a vicious cycle, and poetry will die as soon as it meets criticism. As a result, the poet can't find his readers, and the readers can't find the poet he likes.

Zhu Zhu believes that there are two reasons for this embarrassing situation. First of all, the poet should make a self-examination, because contemporary poets have not provided really good works for readers. Secondly, there are pathological things in our education. "We are neither natural nor able to have a clear understanding of the environment in which we grew up and the environment in the world", and poets have rarely been able to maintain their "illusion".

A poet is always small, and he is willing to disappear into great reading. He is eager for readers.
