Intertextuality is also called "mutual speaking", "mutual understanding", "intertextual understanding", etc. Its characteristic is that the contexts echo and complement each other. Its rhetorical function is to be concise and comprehensive, with implicit meaning and economy. Text has expanded the capacity of poetry. For example:
Ge Yexian was from Qin Palace. ("Efang Palace Fu") means: singing strings in the morning and evening, which means: singing and playing strings from morning to night. This not only describes the prosperity of singing and dancing in Afang Palace, but also points out that after the fall of the Six Kingdoms, the "concubines, concubines, princes and grandsons" became the singers and dancers for Qin Shihuang's enjoyment. This is "single sentence intertextuality", that is, "this sentence intertextuality". Others include "smoke cage, cold water, moon cage and sand" (Du Mu's "Crossing the Qinhuai River"), "the bright moon in the Qin Dynasty and the pass in the Han Dynasty" (Wang Changling's "Crossing the Fortress"). There are also examples in idioms, such as "traveling south to north", "beautiful mountains and clear waters", "good weather", "replacing pillars", "careless", "wolf-hearted", "bringing children and grandchildren", "carved beams and painted buildings", etc.
The flower path has never been swept by visitors, and now the gate is opened for you. (Du Fu's "Guest Arrival") This was written by Du Fu for the visit of his friend Cui Mingfu (Mingfu, an official name in the Tang Dynasty, that is, the county magistrate). These two sentences are reflected in the shirt, which is full of emotion. The meaning of the whole couplet is: the flower path has never been swept for guests, but now it is swept for you; the gate has never been opened for guests, but now it is opened for you. The upper and lower sentences complement each other in meaning and fit together, forming an intertextual couplet. Others are as follows:
