Introduction to Gongshu District

Gongshu District 1, located at the southernmost end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, is one of the central urban areas of Hangzhou and the seat of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In the old days, the district was named after Gongchen Bridge, the oldest arch bridge, and Hushu District, the most prosperous area. Gongshu District borders Jianggan District and Xiacheng District to the southeast, Xihu District and Yuhang District to the northwest, West Lake to the south, and Gaoting Mountain to the north. It has beautiful scenery and a beautiful environment. The ancient and beautiful Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is like a silver chain running through it. The environment has left numerous historical monuments and splendid cultural heritage on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Among the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal's applications for World Heritage in 2014, Gongshu District occupies 3 of the 11 sites in Zhejiang. It is the urban area with the most sites in Zhejiang Province. It is the most complete and well-preserved historic site in the Hangzhou section of the canal. It is the section with the deepest cultural heritage and the richest tourism resources.
