Late theory
In the later period, the crescent school put forward the principles of "health" and "dignity", adhered to the position of "pure poetry" which was super-utilitarian, self-expression and aristocratic, and emphasized "essential alcohol"
Gently/I'm leaving,
When I/gently/come;
I/gently/waved,
Goodbye/western sky/clouds.
That/riverside/golden willow
Yes/in the sunset/bride
In the wave/erotic shadow,
Ripple in my heart.
On the soft mud/green grass,
Oily/underwater/ostentatious;
In He Kang/Jumbo,
I would like to be a grass.
That/in the shade/in the swimming pool,
Not a clear spring, but a rainbow in the sky.
Between broken/floating algae,
Precipitation/rainbow/dream.
Looking for dreams? Hold the pole/pole,
Go/Where the grass is greener/Wander back,
A full load/boat/splendor,
Brilliant/singing.
But I can't play this song,
Quiet/parting/singing;
Summer worm/also for me/silence,
Silence is/tonight/Cambridge!
Quietly/I left,
When I/quietly/come;
Work/wave/sleeve,
Don't take away/a piece/a cloud.
Looking at this poem by Xu Zhimo, the first impression is that he doesn't limit the number of words in every sentence like Wen Yiduo, showing the characteristics of long and short sentences, but the number and structure of sentences in each section are relatively unified. This is a bit like the difference between poetry and words in classical poetry. Each section of this poem is divided into two parts, and each part consists of the first sentence and the last sentence. The repetition of this structure forms a sense of rhythm in poetry. On the tone level, there is not much repetition, but some can still be found. For example, in the first section, the word "gently" appears repeatedly, forming a unique rhythm. As we said before, the rhythm is reflected by the repeated appearance of the same ruler in the same position. Therefore, although repetition here has some functions, it cannot be the pillar of rhythm. Sentence-based rhythm is truly reflected in the fifth section, which is "Going to the greener grass/wandering back" and "Singing in the Stars", and the sixth section, which is "Quiet/Parting/Playing the flute" and "Silence is/Cambridge tonight". Unfortunately, this repetition is too little, and it can only be embellished. In addition, there is a repetition between the first paragraph and the last paragraph, and the tone arrangement of the two paragraphs is very similar, which plays a coordinating role.
Generally speaking, the rhythm of this poem is mainly reflected in the unit of bar, and the rhythm of this unit is only faintly visible.
