This hymn originates from the Bible. In order for God to choose a group of people to be named under His own name and to be His people, so in Abraham and Isaac A special work was done on Jacob, giving them a special experience.
The experience God gave Abraham was to let him know that God is the Father and that everything he had came from God.
Christians never felt the need to compile these books into one book. It was not until 150 AD that a man named Marcion whimsically compiled some letters and a gospel into Together, he compiled a collection of 11 books, saying that these are the only ones that should be read.
