What are the characteristics of Huang Tingjian's poems?
Huang Tingjian (A.D. 1045 ~ 1 105), named Lu Zhi, was a Taoist priest in the valley, as well as Qin Guan, Zhang Lei and Huang Buyuan. He is known as the "Four Bachelor of Sumen" and is a famous poet and calligrapher in the Northern Song Dynasty. Poetry creation pays attention to rhetoric and sentence-making, and pursues extremely hard style. Stylistically, it flaunts the spirit of imitating poets such as Du Fu and Bai Juyi to reflect reality, and gets rid of the influence of Quincy style, which advocates luxury. At the same time, he created many fresh and fluent poems. For example, "Climbing Yueyang Tower" and "Looking at Junshan in the Rain" have great influence in theory, thus forming the famous "Jiangxi Poetry School".
