Chang 'an is one of the important cities in the history of China, and it is also one of the starting points of the Silk Road. During the Tang Dynasty, Chang 'an was known as "the first capital in the world" and became one of the most prosperous and brilliant cities in the world at that time. Many famous literati also left many poems describing the city in Chang 'an.
1. Du Fu's Hope for Spring
Chang' an fell, the country was broken, and only the mountains and rivers remained; Spring has come, and the sparsely populated Chang' an city is densely forested. Sad state, can not help but burst into tears, amazing birds, leaving sorrow and hate. The war lasted for more than half a year, and letters from home were rare, with a hundred thousand gold. Twisting with melancholy, scratching my head and thinking, the more I scratch my white hair, I can hardly insert a hairpin.
This poem describes the scene of Chang 'an being invaded by foreign enemies at the end of the Tang Dynasty. Du Fu compared the cruelty of war with the natural landscape of the city, such as vegetation, flowers and birds. He expressed his inner feelings with "where petals flow like tears, lonely birds sing their grief", which is more representative of people's voices.
2. Bai Juyi's Song of Eternal Sorrow
The emperor of China, eager to shake the beauty of an empire, has been in office for many years, searching and never finding it. Until a child of the Yang family grew up in the inner room, almost before she grew up, and no one knew her. But God-given grace, unabashed, was finally chosen as the royal one day. If she just turned her head and smiled, there would be a hundred spells, and the powder and paint of six palaces would fade into something. It was early spring. They let her bathe in a pure pool to warm and smooth her creamy skin. Because she was tired, a maid lifted her up, when the emperor noticed her for the first time and chose her as his bride. On the night of spring, the warm hibiscus curtains covered her fluttering hair, petals on her cheeks and golden ripples on her head.
This poem shows the beauty and prosperity of Chang 'an in Bai Juyi's works through a love story. In his poems, he described the love story between Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty and Yang Guifei, and also showed the luxury and prosperity of the court in Tang Dynasty.
3. Wang Zhihuan is at Heron Mountain Villa.
The sun sets slowly near the western hills, and the Yellow River flows into the East China Sea. By going up one flight of stairs, look further.
Although this poem does not directly describe Chang 'an, it describes the magnificent scenery of the Yellow River and the yearning for tall buildings and distant places, which shows the people's mood of pursuing and enjoying the scenery in the Tang Dynasty.
4. Cen Can's Up the Mountain
The wind is fast and high, the ape cries sadly, and the birds are circling in the white sand. The endless trees are rustling leaves, and the Yangtze River is rolling unpredictably. Li in the sad autumn scenery, a wanderer all the year round, lives alone on the high platform in today's illness. After all the hardships and hatred, the white hair is full, and the wine glasses are damaged.
Although this poem does not directly describe Chang 'an, its background is the Moon Mountain in the northeast of Chang 'an. By describing the natural landscape, I expressed my thoughts and feelings about life.
In short, the literati in the Tang Dynasty regarded Chang 'an as one of their main creative spaces, and through their literary works, Chang 'an, a city with a strong sense of history, was more poetic and full of vitality.
