What kind of poem is The Songs of the South?

The appearance of Songs of the South is as innovative as the prose in the Warring States period. It is a great liberation of poetic style after the Book of Songs. It absorbed the new forms of folk literature, especially the songs of Chu Sheng, and changed 300 old four-character poems in The Book of Songs, especially Ya and Ode, into irregular poems with different lengths, establishing a new genre of poetry, marking the new development of poetry in the history of China literature.
