Born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. 1906 He entered Harvard University to study philosophy, and received his doctorate ten years later. 19 15 gave up philosophical research and turned to poetry creation and literary criticism. 1948 won the Nobel Prize in Literature for his poem Quartet. His main poems are Pruefer Locke's Love Song (19 15), Portrait of a Lady (19 15), Little Old Man (19 19), etc. The most famous poetic drama is Murder in the Cathedral (1935).
