"The Meditations of the Giant Buddha"
Staying at the Jiazhou Hotel at night, the sound of the river outside the window was so loud that it was difficult to fall asleep. Walking up to the balcony, the night is so attractive: Emei, as dark as a belt, has entered the night curtain to rest and rest. The wooden rafts on the Dadu River float slowly from the upper reaches with a few lights. The moonlight shines through the thin clouds, gently shining on the confluence of the Minjiang River, Qingyi River and Dadu River. Lingyun Mountain to the east looks like an old man wearing a raincoat, sitting on the riverside fishing. The sound of the waves is sometimes heavy, sometimes soft, sometimes close, sometimes far away. The Sanjiang sisters reunited after a long separation are having a heart-to-heart conversation. It seems that they have endless things to say and endless experiences along the way. In an instant, they held hands again, swaying their shimmering long skirts, and headed east to worship the Buddha. My heart and soul followed them.
The Leshan Giant Buddha was seen in a hurry during the day amid the noise of people and the crowds of tourists. Apart from sighing at its majesty and magic, I did not take a closer look at its appearance. This 71-meter-high Buddha statue is still intact after thousands of years of vicissitudes. Look at him with his back leaning on the Lingyun Mountain, kind-faced eyes, giant hands on his knees, open-minded, sitting quietly by the river, year after year, month after month, morning and evening, looking at the sea of ??clouds, moonlight, and the wind and waves of the three rivers, which raft? He hadn't heard the call? Which page of wind and rain on the sails has he not seen? The joy and laughter, pain and joy, the shouts and shouts of the world, the chaotic civilization of the world, the changing tides, and the flames of war, were all collected in his eyes and hidden in his heart. However, he remained silent and unmoved. Still sitting there thinking. Thousands of years have passed, and no one has seen a wrinkle on the corners of his eyes. After searching his 1,021 buns, he can't find a single white hair, and every part of his limbs is so harmonious in size and flesh and blood. Tingyun. I think that no matter which elder is knowledgeable and experienced, standing in front of him, I am afraid he can only be called a child in life; no matter which young golden boy is full of youth and vitality, compared with him, he can only be called a child. Everyone would feel ashamed. Yes, the Great Buddha has lived as long as the world and has survived through the ages. In addition to paying homage to generations of descendants, singing for poets and poets, and taking photos of those suave and suave figures, there should always be something left in people's hearts...
At this point, I couldn’t help but think of the thrilling scene I saw in Haishi Cave during the day. Haishi Cave is located behind the Big Buddha, shaded by green trees and crowded with people on the mountain path covered with lilies. I originally thought this was a wonder of a cave filled with stalactites. When I stepped into the cave door, I saw that the cave, which covers an area of ??only more than ten square meters, was in the shape of a dome. The walls of the cave were wet, water droplets were constantly seeping from the cracks in the rocks, and there were long growths on the shore rocks. It is covered with brown-green moss, but other than that, there is no sense of depth. But there was a strange solemn atmosphere in the cave. There is an eminent monk sitting cross-legged in the cave, as if he is meditating with his eyes closed. He is holding an alms bowl in both hands. The bowl is filled with clear oil. A few lamp grass sticks out of the bowl. Although a ball of flame is not very bright, it dazzles the monk. Into a golden body. The surroundings were filled with people coming to worship, some were lighting incense, and some were carrying oil drums and carefully pouring oil into the begging bowl in the hands of the monks; the old people clasped their hands together with a pious heart; the young people also changed their laughter. The normal state of indulgence is to stand silently and watch intently. Xiao Huang, who was traveling with me from Leshan City, gently pushed me and said, "Go up and take a look. What's in that bowl?" I squeezed up to take a look, and I was shocked: It's actually a human eye! The wick is placed just inside the pupil of the eye, and the light is always on, which is equivalent to the brilliance radiated from the eye. The atmosphere around me didn't allow me to ask questions, so I could only wonder in my heart, why do I put my eyes in the bowl? And why use your eyes to light this ever-burning lamp? Things in the world are so weird!
After coming out of the cave, Xiao Huang solved the mystery for me. It turned out that this eminent monk was Master Haitong who initiated the construction of the Buddha, and the eyeball was the sacrifice that Master Haitong made for the construction of the Buddha. Without Haitong, there would not be this giant Buddha; without the price of this eyeball, there would be no way to break up the demonic fog and demonic barriers blocking the Buddha's body. "Don't think it's just an eyeball, it's a touchstone of good and evil, the devil's mirror! People here are encountering ups and downs in life, tribulations in career, and have injustices. As soon as we stand here, take a look and think about it, Believe it or not, those who are crooked and have bad intentions will feel hot all over their bodies when they look at these majestic eyes. ? "How can I understand that an eyeball can have such power? Seeing that I was deep in thought and didn't answer, Xiao Huang told me mysteriously: "Do you believe it or not? We have some believers in Buddhism and some who don't. When you come here, you always have to see the big Buddha and the sea. No one is in charge of the cave, but The incense burns continuously all year round, and the Buddha lamp is always bright. The strange thing is that the sesame oil in the alms bowl is always full. Even if the mountain is blocked by heavy snow, the road is blocked by water, or it is a stormy night, there will be people in front to add oil. After the person left, the successors climbed up the mountain again, and no one gave order to anyone's turn. Do you think it's strange or not?" After hearing what Xiao Huang said, he felt that this eyeball was even more mysterious and unpredictable. , it is more soul-stirring than those stories in Buddhism about people who sacrifice their lives to feed tigers. Of course, I want to get to the bottom of it and get to the bottom of it.
One eyeball leads to a tragic life experience of Haitong. Haitong was originally from Guizhou, and his family was extremely poor, so he lost his hair and became a monk. The difficult Buddhist career gave birth to his grand ambitions. When he was in his twenties, he traveled north, leaving traces of wind and frost along the way. A worn-out cassock wrapped him up in the cold and summer weather, and finally he came to the beautiful Jiazhou (Jiazhou). Leshan was called Jiazhou in ancient times). But at first glance, I saw a disaster.
The floods filled the sky, and the Qingyi, Minjiang, and Dadu rivers were like three evil dragons, green, white, and black, that had broken free from their chains in the heaven. They rolled and fought here, making the sky yellow and the earth yellow, and people panicked. At a glance, Lingyun Mountain looks like an iron gate, blocking the flow of water from the south, causing three evil dragons to leap into a rage. Rows of waves are trying desperately to break open the mountain gate, and vortexes like tigers and leopards are trying to sink the mountains to the bottom of the river. One by one, civilian boats floating from the Minjiang River are pushed to the gate of this ghost by the evil waves. The boatman shouted desolate chants and fought hard to escape this imminent disaster. Standing on the cliff, Haitong was worried. He put his hands together and recited the Diamond Sutra, which contains great mercy and compassion, calling on the Buddha to come and save all sentient beings. "Boom - Peng - -" A loud thunder fell in front of Haitong. He opened his eyes and saw a boat, like a bird egg throwing stones, hitting the jagged rocks. Its mast was broken and scattered, and it flew halfway into the sky. The tragic cry for help from the boatman who fell into the water suddenly came from the river. Haitong hurriedly ran down the mountain and chased along the river, but except for a few scattered black spots of wood chips, where could he find any human figures? Hot tears filled Haitong's clothes, and an unspeakable pain locked his mind and body. He looked at Lingyun Mountain again and again, and looked at the raging river and thought again and again. He faced Mount Emei to the west, knelt down with a thud, and swore to the sky: "Buddha is above me, and my disciple Haitong will split this mountain wall to build a holy statue. I will use the power of Buddha to calm the wind and waves and save all living beings. I will never go to Emei if I don't borrow money for my long-cherished wish. May the Buddha forgive his sincerity in loving his disciples!" From then on, Haitong settled in Maolingyun Mountain, cultivated his body in Haishi Cave, and embarked on the grand project of building a giant Buddha. It is not easy for a lonely monk with only one robe and one bowl to accomplish such a great undertaking! Not to mention how vast the project is and how expensive it is, just talk about the tens of millions of craftsmen gathered in Lingyun Mountain, setting up camps, thousands of vehicles and ships, and transportation scheduling. Even in modern times, even the most advanced computers would take several days of careful calculations. What a great monk Haitong, he dared to do what others dare not do, he dared to think what others did not dare to think, he suffered what others could not bear, and he shouldered such a heavy burden.
Buddhism is solemn and its teachings are magnificent, but I think that Buddhist temples have always been a resort in Zhanling Mountain. They made clay statues and painted gold bodies to win the world's good men and women. The incense is flourishing. Buddhism also has a mentality of "accumulating good deeds and virtues" "To save all sentient beings." Little do we know that the world is so big, with a great disparity between the rich and the poor, and monsters in the world. Some people cry, some are sad, and some hang themselves from the rafters. How many people can transcend the sea of ??suffering and reach the paradise world? Among Buddhists in the world, there are some who are patriotic, some who correct evil and correct evil, and there are also some who are evil and domineering. What's more, it means staying away from the world, neither attending to lawsuits nor redressing the grievances of the people. It just allows you to practice asceticism in the morning bells and evening drums, dim lights and fireworks, and seek self-liberation in a dazed and peaceful manner. Even though the teachings are clear, how many of them do some practical things to benefit the people? In contrast, Monk Haitong tried his best to teach and followed his faith to practice hard. He can be regarded as the most sincere Buddhist in the world. In order to eradicate floods and spread the word in the world, he used his teachings to impress the people, mobilized thousands of troops, and worked together to carry out extraordinary achievements. He can be said to be the most courageous, wise, and far-sighted monk in the world.
The Giant Buddha was excavated in the early years of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. To build a complete Buddha statue on a cliff of more than 70 meters, many people think it is a fantasy like a fantasy. As soon as the ax was chiseled, all kinds of words came to Haitong's ears, including well-intentioned comforters, malicious slanderers, mockers and sneers, and financial sponsors all came unexpectedly. Haitong welcomes good people and resists evil people. His ears are not soft, his heart is sincere and his will is strong. The county officials in Jiazhou salivated when they heard that Haitong had accumulated hundreds of thousands of taels of silver to build a Buddha. They suddenly had evil thoughts and led troops to blackmail him. Haitong appealed to the county officials on the basis of Buddhism's principle of doing good deeds and eradicating floods in the Three Rivers. Unexpectedly, the county officials had a sinister look on their faces and charged Haitong with "destroying the feng shui of the Three Rivers and using Buddhism to enrich themselves". Haitong suppressed the anger in his heart and replied coldly: "I can gouge out my eyes for you, but I can't deprive you of the money to build the Buddha!"
The county official looked ordinary and haggard. Haitong laughed dumbly: "You have the guts! Buddhism has a right to speak, so Master might as well try to do it!" Haitong was forced to have no way out, so he walked into the clean room calmly, gouged out his eyes by himself, put them on a tray and held them with both hands. In front of the county officials. Shocking! When the powerful county official saw the bloody eyes and the motionless Haitong, his whole body was shaken. Countless needles suddenly fell into his frightened eyes, and the pain was unbearable. He muttered: "I...I made a mistake..."
Master Haitong lost his eyesight and could no longer see the giant Buddha under construction, but the Buddha's light in his heart illuminated the entire Lingyun Mountain. . The mountains have become quiet, the waves have calmed down, boats and boats from ancient Jiazhou have gathered together, and the skilled masonry craftsmen from all over the world have come unexpectedly. The sparks of stone cutting have reflected the three rivers that lead to the four seas in a bright light. I don’t know if it is the Buddha’s heart that has moved people, or the hearts of people. A Buddha?
Due to the huge amount of work, Master Haitong, who was exhausted both physically and mentally, fell ill. His apprentices were worried, and the masonry workers cried bitterly while holding his sick body. Thousands of hearts were tied to this unfinished Buddha. Haitong also knew that he would not be able to survive that day, but he firmly believed that those who came after him would definitely complete this great undertaking. His spirit moved Wei Gao, the military governor of Xichuan, and he continued to organize migrant workers to excavate the site after Haitong's death. It was not completed until the 19th year of Emperor Dezong's reign in the Tang Dynasty. It has gone through 90 summers and colds.
Putting out a pair of eyes illuminates a world; falling down a flesh and blood body, erecting a monument of faith. We should be grateful to the unknown sculptor for finding the most beautiful focus of light, shaping the image of Haitong, and touching the hearts of thousands of us ordinary people.
People always have beliefs and pursuits, but no matter which doctrine they believe in, they must do something practical for the people.
Standing in front of the statue of Master Haitong, I asked myself: Those of us who believe in communism, if we encounter those demonic fog and obstacles blocking the path of our career, do we have the courage to "judge our own goals and support them with a plate"?
The tide in Sanjiang is rising, and the sound comes from far away and comes closer, and the waves change from light to heavy. The giant Buddha under the moon seems to be still thinking solemnly...
