Among his poems about the times, the most famous ones are "Going to Liuzhou City to Send Zhang Tingfeng to Four States", "Hao Chu Seeing the Mountains with People to Send Friends and Family in Beijing" and "Rewarding Cao Shi Xiang County", among which "Going to Liuzhou City to Send Zhang Tingfeng to Four States" is a famous work in the Tang Dynasty. This poem was written in the 10th year of Yuanhe (8 15). When the poet was just relegated to Liuzhou, he went upstairs and looked at it, remembering Han Tai, Han Hua, Chen Jian, Liu Yuxi and others who were also relegated, and wrote poems as gifts. A poem wrote: "On this tower, the town ended, the wilderness began, and our desire reached as far as the ocean or the sky. The hibiscus flowers beside the moat are swaying in the sudden wind, and the oblique rain is beating the vines on the wall. We can't see anything beyond 300 miles, except vague Woods and mountains, and there are nine rivers winding in our stomachs. * * * Come to Baiyue tattoo land, don't even want a letter, let's keep in touch with home. " It contains anger in the scenery, its style is clear, simple and steep, and it is difficult to distinguish the scenery language from the emotional language, which is stained with strong emotional color.
Among Liu's poems, most of them are leisurely works describing the life of relegation, such as Fisherman, Walking Alone in the North Pond of Yuxi after Rain, and Summer Encounter, which are beautiful, round and melodious. There is a famous poem of Liu Qiyan in Fisherman: "The old fisherman spent the night here, under the west cliff, Xiao Ji, burning bamboo. Then, at sunrise, he walked through the fog and saw a green landscape. I turned around and saw the waves coming from the sky, and the clouds on the cliff drifted carelessly. " It contains truth in the scene and emotion in the scene, which implies the poet's yearning for free life. "Then, at sunrise, he walked through the fog and embarked on his road, which is a green landscape" has a unique idea and has been appreciated by many famous artists in later generations.
The artistic conception in Liu Zongyuan's poems is often lonely and barren, without any earthly fireworks, which is particularly prominent in his prestigious masterpiece Jiang Xue: "There are no birds in the hundreds of mountains, and there are no footprints in the thousands of paths. A boat, a bamboo cloak, an old man fishing in the cold river-snow. " The whole poem is only twenty crosses, which shows the author's idea of getting rid of worldly things.
In a word, Liu Zongyuan's poems are euphemistic and profound, meticulous and concise, with high artistic achievements, showing his sober and noble character everywhere, as well as his grief and indignation at being exiled to the wilderness.
