Once, I read an article saying that we China people can't judge Nobel Prize in Literature, and another very important factor is that we haven't given enough publicity to our writers. It's ridiculous that an embassy staff in China doesn't know the great writer Shen Congwen.
Looking at our country, there are many kinds of literary awards, which is not necessarily a good thing. Let me give you some categories of literary awards named after celebrities:
The Lu Xun Literature Award shall be established to encourage the creation of China's outstanding short stories, reportage, poems, essays, essays, literary theories and critical works, and to encourage the translation of outstanding Chinese and foreign literary works. It is sponsored by the Chinese Writers Association, and the Lu Xun Literature Award is selected every two years.
Mao Dun Literature Award is sponsored by Chinese Writers Association. Founded in 198 1, it aims to encourage the creation of excellent novels according to the wishes of the famous writer Mao Dun. Mao Dun Literature Award is selected every four years.
Guo Moruo's Essay Award is the highest award in China.
Xia Yan Film Literature Award is the national first prize approved by the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the highest award in China film literature.
Cao Yu Drama Literature Award, sponsored by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Chinese Dramatists Association, is a national award for script creation and represents the highest level of drama creation in China. Its predecessor was 1980, the National Excellent Screenplay Award founded by Chinese Dramatists Association, and 1994 was renamed as Cao Yu Drama Literature Award.
The Feng Mu Prize for Literature focuses on encouraging new people and is selected once a year. There are three awards: 1, Young Critics Award; 2. Literary Newcomer Award; 3. Military Literature Creation Award. The three awards are mainly young and middle-aged writers and critics, among which the young critics are under 40 years old; Military literature creation award, awarded at the age of 50; There is no specific age for the literary newcomer award.
Zhuang Chongwen Literature Award is a youth literature award sponsored by China Literature Foundation, which was initiated and funded by a famous Hong Kong person, Mr. Zhuang Chongwen, on 1987. It is mainly used to reward young writers and outstanding young literary publications who have made outstanding achievements in literary creation and literary criticism.
The Yao Novel Award is sponsored by the China Literature Foundation of the Chinese Writers Association. According to the wishes and donations of the famous writer Yao, the "Yao Long Historical Novel Award" was established to reward outstanding long historical novels. The award is selected every four years.
Lao She Literature Award (Beijing) is the highest prize in Beijing literature and art sponsored by Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Lao She Literature and Art Foundation, which is used to reward the creation of Beijing-born writers and outstanding works published in Beijing. Lao She Literature Award was formally established on 1989, and was awarded for the first time in June 2000. Awards include novels, novellas, drama scripts, movies, TV dramas and radio dramas.
Zhao Shuli Literature Award (Shanxi) awarded special awards to works and writers who won the national literature award; Award 1 ~ 2 young writers every year, and award the literary newcomer award; In addition, awards have been set up for novels, short stories, poems, essays and reportage, film and television works, and literary criticism. The works award is selected every three years, and each award is 1 ~ 3 outstanding works.
Liu Qing Prize for Literature (Shaanxi) is jointly sponsored by Shaanxi Writers Association, xi Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chang 'an District Committee and District Government, College of Literature of Northwest University, College of Literature of Shaanxi Normal University, Bailu Academy, etc. It mainly rewards outstanding realistic literary works and writers in our province. Six works are selected every three years, including three novels, a novella, a prose and a collection of poems.
The Mao Zedong Prize for Literature is awarded in seven categories: novels, short stories, poems, essays, reportage, literary criticism and children's literature.
There are many kinds of literary awards named after celebrities. Of course, so many kinds of literary awards are useful, but obviously there are also many disadvantages.
First, we have an old saying in China that says it very well: more is miscellaneous, less is fine. There is only one in Nobel Prize in Literature, and no one knows how many categories we have. Too much. Don't confuse readers!
Second, if there are many tricks, publicity will naturally be out of focus and not in place. Moreover, there are not one or two winners in each category. Take Lu Xun Literature Award as an example. More than 50 people won the prize for the first time. How to publicize? Who remembers so many names?
Third, although the scope of the above awards is different, there is overlap in the setting, which is obviously not perfect. What is even more ridiculous is that there is a Lu Xun Literature Award in the whole country and a Lu Xun Literature Award in Guangdong Province, with the same name but different levels. There is no mistake, only God knows.
Fourth, although we have so many kinds of literary awards, most of them are works, not writers, just like Nobel Prize in Literature. What about our media? Often only the results of awards are reported, and the publicity for writers is always stingy, while the publicity for entertainment stars is often excessive. Of course, there are too many award-winning works to blame.
Therefore, Nobel Prize in Literature's repeated neglect of China writers does have our own reasons. So there's nothing we can do? Absolutely not! We can also learn from Nobel Prize in Literature's method and set up a special category of literature prize to reward writers, so as to enhance their popularity. Who should be named after? Personally, I think Confucius is the most suitable. At present, there are only Confucius Education Awards in the world, but there is no Confucius Literature Award.
Why should it be named after Confucius? Because Confucius has great influence at home and abroad. In the west, Confucius is highly respected and enjoys the same reputation as the ancient Greek philosophers Socrates and Plato. Confucius ranked fifth in the list of "100 most influential figures in history" published by the west. Americans also regard Confucius as one of the top ten thinkers in the world.
UNESCO's World Teacher's Day, California's Teacher's Day, Malaysian Teacher's Day, China's Taiwan Province Province and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Teacher's Day are all scheduled for September 28th, Confucius' birthday.
Of course, we set up the Confucius Prize for Literature not only to reward famous writers in our country, but also not so narrow-minded. We want to make it the highest literary prize in the Chinese world or oriental literature, and let it compete with the Nobel Prize, which almost represents western literature.
On the one hand, we use the Confucius Prize for Literature to promote the prosperity of China's literary creation; On the other hand, it will certainly promote more people to understand China culture and oriental civilization, and make more people like Chinese. Why not do it?
Some people may worry, where does the money come from? I think we are not afraid that no one will sponsor such an award. Isn't the 2006 China Rich List coming again? Rich people in China have a lot of money in their pockets, so it shouldn't be a problem to spell a Confucius Prize for Literature.
