Du Fu (712 AD - 770 BC), also known as Zimei and Shaoling Yelao, his works are included in the complete works of Du Gongbu.
I think you can divide his life into three parts:
When he was young, as the grandson of Du Shenyan, he was studious, intelligent, and had lofty political ambitions. He wrote the famous line "I will be at the top of the mountain and see all the small mountains at a glance", which is intended to express his ideals. He began to travel around the country in the 19th year of Kaiyuan. Five years later, he rushed to Gyeonggi to take the exam, but failed. After that, he traveled to various places and went to Chang'an during the Tianbao period. Unfortunately, he had no way to become an official. He struggled for ten years before getting a small position. (This can reflect Du Fu’s spirit of pursuing his ideals and never giving up. Ten years of hardship passed easily. This is how firm and forbearing he is. However, he has the world in mind and refuses to be content with himself. He never takes care of himself. This is the young Du Fu.)
During the Anshi Rebellion, he was homeless again and was unexpectedly captured by the rebels. After escaping from danger, he went to Zuo to collect his belongings. Later, he abandoned his official position and went west, settling in Chengdu as a member of the school engineering department. (During this period, when he was in his middle age, he became concerned about the country and the people, and wrote what we all know: "The country is broken, the mountains and rivers are there, the city is springy and the vegetation is deep." This is his love for his country and his family. But after arriving in Chengdu, His poems became elegant and refined, and he wrote countless beautiful scenes that were sung by future generations. This was his middle age)
In his later years, he moved his family eastward and stayed in Kuizhou for two years. Deaths occurred in Hunan and Hubei. (In his middle and later years, he wrote the song "Thatched Cottage Was Destroyed by the Autumn Wind". He was more concerned about the country and the people. His poems were melancholy and frustrating. Although he was an old man in leisure, he devoted his heart to helping the world. How great is this!)
The gentleman also lives in exile, and he has a thatched cottage where the sky and the earth are clear and windy.
In 770 AD, Du Fu died of illness on a disabled ship in Hunan. In the end, he was unable to touch the hometown that had haunted him countless days and nights.
It was suffering that made Du Fu successful, but Du Fu saw through suffering. He is the only one who has the heart to protect the poor people in the world. May he live forever.
