Library of Congress Classification

< p> "Library of Congress Classification (LCC)" is a comprehensive hierarchical enumeration classification compiled by the Library of Congress under the leadership of Director G.H. Putnam based on the library's collection of books.

In 1899, the earliest outline was drawn up with reference to C.A. Carter's "Expanded Classification", and then it was compiled and published in volumes according to major categories. The classification outline was published in 1901, and the "Z Bibliography" volume was published in 1902. The total length exceeds 10,000 pages, and most of the major categories were published between 1901 and 1938. By 1985, 36 volumes had been published, among which the earlier published volumes have been revised to 4th and 5th editions.

The degree of subdivision of each type of LC depends on the number and content of the library's collection of books. The rigor of the entire system is not emphasized, and the categories focus on history, social sciences and literature.
