Insist on doing something meaningful

On the 93rd day of the war against the epidemic, meditation on the 9th day of medical isolation

On April 16 last year, a fire broke out at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, causing serious damage. Many Parisians I cried uncontrollably, because this was not only saddened by the church itself, but also strongly touched the spirit of Parisians. Notre Dame is a symbol of Western Catholic faith and the spiritual sustenance of Parisian emotions.

When I saw this report, I was deeply touched, because I also have a relationship with Notre Dame.

The origin is that more than 30 years ago, I watched the movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", which was adapted from the novel of the same name by the famous French writer Victor Hugo. The love story deeply shocked me.

On May 27, 2013, my wife and I took a free trip to Europe and flew to Paris, France for the first time. As soon as we got off the plane, we went to Notre Dame Cathedral in time to celebrate the 850th anniversary of Notre Dame de Paris. , I also bought three commemorative coins, two euros each.

At that time, the two of us entered the interior of the church and were deeply moved by the sacred atmosphere and exquisite architectural scenes. We sat quietly for a while, experiencing and watching. I was lost in thought as I looked at the altar and the devout worshipers.

It took 180 years from the beginning to the completion of Notre Dame de Paris. Of course, there are also churches that took longer to build. Compared with the Forbidden City, which represents the highest level of ancient architecture in my country, the Forbidden City has a history of more than 600 years. Historically, the Forbidden City took 10 years to complete. I didn't expect that the construction of a church would take so long.

So I marveled at the patience, perseverance and craftsmanship of the Europeans, and then felt envy and admiration.

I secretly asked myself, why don’t we have a long-term belief and steady and patient persistence?

One day after returning to my hometown, I saw the advertising video of Canal City. My heart trembled, followed by joy and pride. I found the answer.

The canal running through the city in my hometown is the famous Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal!

Really, riding a donkey to find a donkey! Our Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal has a history of more than 1,000 years. If we count the first section of the Ling Canal during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, when the Grand Canal first came to mind, China has a history of canal construction of more than 2,400 years.

In other words, the construction of China's Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal has not stopped for more than 2,400 years since the inspiration for its construction was generated and put into practice!

It can be imagined that European churches were built by Europeans in pursuit of spiritual homes and spiritual domination, so they have a tireless and eternal motivation.

China's more than 2,400 years of canal construction history is a practical need for the country to pursue unification and develop its economy, and it also has eternal internal motivation.

It can be seen that whether a country, organization or individual is doing something, it must have both goals and motivation to do it well.

Looking back at the road I have traveled for more than 50 years, I can’t help but sigh and feel ashamed.

Let’s not talk about anything else, just hobbies. My hobbies include: painting, heat transfer, stamp collecting, flower gardening, horse-step punching, enemy-catching boxing, Emei Kung Li boxing, Tan Kick, playing cards, billiards, shooting, QQ, drinking, drinking tea, chatting, skating, calligraphy, Movies, cycling, motorcycles, table tennis, badminton, Go, boxing, games, flute, singing, dancing, performance, classical guitar, folk guitar, English, photography, travel, writing, setting up a literary club, WeChat, blog, WeChat Bo, DingTalk, cars, mountain climbing, universe, philosophy, Chinese studies, poetry, Tai Chi, etc.

There are many hobbies, but enthusiasm is short-lived. If you try them briefly, they are basically just a three-minute passion, or you may fish for three days and dry the net for two days. In the end, almost all of them are gone.

Now the only ones that have persisted for a long time are: writing for 3 years, photography for 9 years, traveling for 10 years, Chinese studies for 12 years, and Tai Chi for 15 years.

Let’s talk about Tai Chi, which lasts the longest. Why don’t I talk about Tai Chi instead of Tai Chi? Because as a martial art, it should be called Tai Chi. If it is professional training, the best age for learning should be before the age of 12. I prefer to think of Tai Chi as a movement to adjust the dynamic balance inside and outside the body and a concept of harmony among all things. It is a movement for literati and a practice full of Eastern philosophical thinking and Zen artistic conception.

My original intention in learning Tai Chi was to treat illnesses. I started learning Tai Chi at the age of 40 and I taught myself.

Because I was physically sick between the ages of 9 and 30, and had major surgeries 6 times. Between the ages of 30 and 40, I suffered from work pressure, unfair environment, and my own psychological fragility. Excessive drinking can cause great harm to the body.

When I was 40 years old, my work unit organized a health check-up and found that 8 of my indicators were abnormal, which sounded an alarm for me.

Since I used to be a preventive medicine physician, I immediately realized the seriousness of the problem. It is still too late to stop the damage, everything can be reversed, and recovery is still possible.

At the same time, I also know that no medicine can help me.

While I was struggling to find good fitness and treatment options, my uncle who was far away in Xianyang, Shaanxi Province went back to his hometown to visit relatives.

The uncle performed a set of Tai Chi in the New Century Plaza. I and the people around me were shocked. This was the first time I saw Tai Chi. I saw flowing clouds and flowing water, as if they were immortals.

The uncle was 72 years old at the time. He started practicing boxing when he was 40 years old. He learned it from a famous Tai Chi master in Shaanxi. The purpose was also to cure diseases, and he also suffered from health problems around the age of 40. After practicing boxing, all the uncle's illnesses were cured.

So I immediately decided that Tai Chi would be the first step in my physical recovery.

However, my journey of learning Tai Chi in the past 15 years has been very bumpy.

During this period, there was a complete break for nearly 4 years. I decided not to practice 9 times. I suspected that Tai Chi was a scam many times. I thought that Peking Opera, calligraphy, dragon dance, Tai Chi martial arts and other performances were just It is just a performance performed by the state to promote the traditional culture of the Chinese nation internationally. They think Tai Chi is outdated and not as scientific and fashionable as the modern sports and bodybuilding exercises in developed countries in Europe and the United States.

So for a few years exercise was changed to a simple brisk walk.

In the past three years, I completely gave up brisk walking, returned to practicing Tai Chi, and consulted professional teachers, and I have persisted until now.

The result of persistence is satisfactory. It turns out that all 8 abnormal indicators in the physical examination at the age of 40 have basically returned to normal.

In particular, my blood pressure has been basically controlled and stable without taking any medicine for nearly 2 years, and my blood viscosity has become normal. I haven’t had a cold in 3 years, and I have hardly used any skin care products in 3 years. Especially since I have no taboos about eating without getting fat, I feel very happy.

Thinking about it now, Tai Chi has allowed me to persist for the longest time. Despite the twists and turns, I have become more and more fond of it. Why?

Because Tai Chi has a history of 1,000 years from its inception to today, and has been widely passed down and developed. It has produced tangible benefits for me and has become a kind of belief and reliance.

It can be said that there is no faith without reason in the world, and there is no love without reason. Because of faith, we can persevere, and because of love, we can have strength!

A person’s ability and energy are very limited. It is a very happy thing to be able to find something that is suitable for oneself and meaningful, to persist in doing it well, and to form a belief.
