Huang Tingjian (1045- 1 105), born in Taibai Mountain, Fuzhou, Fujian, was a great writer in the Northern Song Dynasty. In his early years, he worked as an official in Quanzhou, Fuzhou and Jianzhou, Fujian Province, but he gave up his official position because of dissatisfaction with official corruption, lived in seclusion in the mountains and concentrated on writing. Huang Tingjian's poetry and prose style is fresh and natural, which is deeply loved by later generations and is known as one of the "eight masters in Tang and Song Dynasties".
