The origin of "literature"
In the Western Han Dynasty, the person in charge of a school was called Wen instead of the principal or instructor, that is, Li.
In order to select talents, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty specially set up the subject of "Xian Wen". Every year, counties recommend talents to take exams in Beijing, and candidates are called "good writers". "Virtue" refers to a person with good moral character and noble morality; "Wen" refers to people who are proficient in Confucian classics.
In the late Wei and Jin dynasties, the word "literature" became a proper noun of language art. Cao Pi's "good literature" recorded in history books is based on writings, which is the present literary significance.
