My heart is a bird in the wilderness.

Author: Tagore

My heart is a wilderness, a bird, and I found the sky in your eyes;

Your eyes are the cradle of the morning, and your eyes are the kingdom of stars;

My song disappears in the depths of your eyes, so let me soar in the sky;

Let me soar in the lonely and boundless sky, let me clear its clouds;

Spread your wings and fly in its sunshine.

Creation background

Tagore was born in an era of rapid change and was influenced by traditional Indian philosophy and western philosophy. Tagore showed his talent in his childhood. He was only 14 years old when his patriotic poem "Temple Fair for Hindus" was published (1875).

1905 India set off the first climax of the national liberation movement. Tagore took an active part in this movement and wrote many patriotic poems. This period is the most brilliant period of his creation. He published eight poems in Bengali and eight poems in English, including The Gardener.

Theme of the work

Love is the eternal theme of poetry. In these more than 80 poems, there are shyness of first love, anguish of lovesickness, anxiety of expectation, adventure of tryst, happiness of wedding and pain of where to go. The poet seems to lead us into the mysterious world of love, appreciate the bitterness and joy in it, and at the same time reflect the poet's persistent pursuit of ideal life.
