What are Li Shangyin's late rain poems?

Li Shangyin's poem "Late Rain";

Write to my wife in the north on a rainy night.

Li shangyin

When you ask about the return date, it's hard to say, evening rain, Manqiuchi.

When * * * cut the candle at the west window, but talk about the rain at night.

Translation:

If you ask me the date of my return to China, I haven't decided yet! On the autumn night tonight, when the Bashan is falling, the autumn pool has been filled. When will we meet * * * cutting red candles, under the west window? Let's talk about the feeling of listening to the rain in Bashan tonight. The whole poem expresses the poet's sadness about the undecided return date, the heavy rain, the deep yearning for his wife and the joy of fantasy reunion.

The title of this poem is Rain at Night, which was given to his wife by the poet when he was in Bashu (present-day Sichuan). Bashan: Also known as Daba Mountain. This refers to the land of Bashu in general. The first sentence of this poem is full of ups and downs and has a unique charm. It is related to the scene described in the second sentence. It is raining at night and full of autumn pools. The poet's worries about travel and the pain of lovesickness welled up in his mind. The third and fourth sentences are transformed from actual scenes into virtual scenes, expressing the wish of "cutting candles at the west window". The poet imagined that the pain of being alone tonight would be the material for cutting candles at night after reunion, and compared the pain of being alone tonight with the joy of cutting candles at night in the future. This idea is very good and sincere. The two appearances of "Qi" and "Late Rain" in this poem have the artistic effect of changing one from the other. The whole poem creates a beautiful artistic conception of blending scene and reality, which embodies the style characteristics of Li Shangyin's "Ye Xie's original poem".

Brief introduction of the author

Li Shangyin (about 8 13- about 858), a native of Yuxi, was born in Fan Nansheng. Wen, also known as "Xiao" with Du Mu, originated from Hanoi, Huaizhou (now Qinyang City, Henan Province) and moved to Xingyang (now Zhengzhou City, Henan Province) in the late Tang Dynasty to write poems. ?

Li Shangyin lost his father when he was a child and returned to his hometown with his mother, leading a poor life. At the age of sixteen, he was famous for being good at ancient Chinese. In the third year of Daiwa (829), he moved to Luoyang and got to know Ling Huchu and other predecessors. Niu Dang made Ling Huchu appreciate his literary talent, personally endowed him with today's genre and performance knowledge, and gave him financial support. Later, he was hired to enter the stage. In the second year of Kaicheng (837), he was admitted to the Jinshi, and then re-entered the stage of Linghu Chu. After his death, Ling Huchu entered the stage of "Li Party", our ambassador Wang Maoyuan, and soon married Wang Nv. Since then, it has fallen into the whirlpool of "the dispute between Niu and Li" and has been regarded as "ungrateful" and "infeasible" by the "Niu Party". In the second year, I had to take the exam of "erudite and colourful words", and I was accepted and then brushed off. In the second year of Huichang (842), he was awarded the title of secretary. After Xuanzong ascended the throne, Niu Dang was in power. He immediately gave up his position in Beijing and went to Guihai with Li Dang Zheng Ya. In the following ten years, they all drifted around, served as aides and began to believe in Buddhism. In the 12th year of Dazhong (858), he abdicated due to illness and died in Zhengzhou. ?

Li Shangyin is one of the most outstanding poets in the late Tang Dynasty. His poems are ingenious in conception, expressing deep feelings with implicit symbolism, exquisite rhetoric, euphemistic and harmonious rhyme and subtle twists and turns.
