Anecdotes of Chen Tao

Chen Tao's loyalty even touched the little prostitute.

In front of women, especially beautiful women, the true face of men is rarely exposed inaccurately; This is indeed a magical thing, but it is also extremely helpless.

It is true that there will be some men who will not be tempted even if women tease them in every way, which is undoubtedly more amazing. What I want to tell here is a magical story about Chen Tao, a poet in the late Tang Dynasty.

Chen Tao, whose name is song bo, is not clear about his date and place of birth. We only know that he lived in the early years of Wuzong Huichang (84 1). He writes poems and is famous for his simple style. Unfortunately, he failed to pass the exam for a long time, so he went to the mountains to live in seclusion. Among many poems written by Chen Tao, two poems are particularly popular. It says:

The Central Plains is not rare, but naturally the royal family network is sparse!

It can be seen that he has great expectations for himself, but according to secular practice, he always fails to get into the Jinshi exam. With the passage of time, his mood of fame and fortune gradually became cold, so he stopped trying to get into Jinshi, but wandered among famous mountains and rivers all over the country.

Chen Tao, a self-proclaimed "three religions in cloth", took refuge in Hongzhou in middle age (859 ~ 860) because of the war. At that time, Yan Shangshu knew that Chen Tao was very moral, so he admired him very much and often went to the mountains to talk with Chen Tao. Sometimes two people don't feel tired when they talk all day. Because of his many contacts, Yan Shangshu wanted to play a joke on him, so he sent a talented woman to wait on him to see if he could shake Chen's loyal character.

However, despite the teasing of this beautiful and even charming little prostitute, Chen Tao was unmoved. Look at the little prostitute, you can't resist it, so she sang a seven-character quatrain to Chen Tao:

Lotus is a jade cheek, so ministers should send their concubines for love.

Chu Shi never dreamed of the Wuxia Gorge, so he walked off the balcony in vain. ③

This poem uses an allusion to describe the love between men and women. Chen Tao's heart is clear, of course, but he still insists on his loyalty and integrity. In the face of this little prostitute's teasing, he also returned in the form of poetry:

Recently, poetry is clear and old customs are as thin as clouds.

Has ascended to heaven, jinyi deeply ashamed of Zhuo Wenjun. ④

It is wise for the poet to compare this little prostitute with an ancient beauty Zhuo Wenjun, but he is still unmoved.

As a result, the little prostitute in Hongzhou had to leave with tears in her eyes; After returning home, she told the story of this relationship with Yan Shangshu in detail and couldn't help crying. Upon hearing this, Yan Shangshu showed more respect for Chen Tao. Later, Chen Tao used to burn incense and sit on a boulder, wearing a crane and saying nothing all day. At night, he actually bent down to worship the stars and the moon, and others rarely saw him sleeping. One day, the sky was very clear, but suddenly it rained heavily, destroying all the huts where Chen Tao lived. But Chen Tao has disappeared. It was a long time before I heard someone say that I would occasionally see Chen Tao in the mountains.

According to: ① There are at least three statements about his native place, and some say that he is from Lingnan (such as "Complete Tang Poetry"); Some people say that he is from Jianpu (such as Chronicle of Tang Poetry); Others say that he is from Poyang, and some even combine him into one, saying that he is from Jianpu, Poyang (such as Biography of Talented Persons in Tang Dynasty), which is really endless. 2 Yan Shangshu said a name, a name from. No.3, go to the sound; Yes, a flat voice. According to authoritative rhymes, "Shang" in Shangshu belongs to Nuo sound, but it is mostly used as a flat sound in Tang poetry; It stands to reason that this is a proper noun, so it can be accommodating. 4 think that this is a noun, pronunciation.
