Cao Pi was an outstanding poet in China during the Three Kingdoms period. Ge Yanxing is the earliest extant seven-character poem of literati in China. Ge Yanxing was written during Cao Cao's northern expedition to Wuhuan County in the 12th year of Jian 'an, which was the highest achievement of Cao Pi's poetry. It is written in the form of seven-character rhyme, and it is the earliest and most complete seven-character rhyme in existence.
From the perspective of "thinking about women", Ge Yanxing reflects the present situation of war and displacement in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, and expresses the inner resentment and melancholy of men and women who were forced to separate. Cao Pi (187 —— June 29th, 2026), a native of Wei Wendi, was born in Pei County (now Bozhou City, Anhui Province). The son of Cao Cao, Emperor Wudi of Wei, whose mother is Mrs. Bian, Empress of Wu Xuan. He is both civil and military, well-read, familiar with the theory of a hundred schools of thought, and disgusted with the five senses. In the 22nd year of Jian 'an (2 17), it was established as Wang Wei.
In the 25th year of Jian 'an (220), he succeeded the Prime Minister and Wang Wei. In the same year, he ascended the throne, ending the rule of the Han Dynasty for more than 400 years and establishing the State of Wei. During his reign, Chen Qun, a senior official of the official department, was adopted to formulate and implement the "Nine Grades" system, which became the main system for selecting officials in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, calmed down the separatist forces in Qingzhou and Xuzhou, and finally completed the unification of the northern region.
