Taiyuan University of Technology is a century-old institution with a long history, profound background and distinctive features. Its predecessor was Tangxi College of Shanxi University, which was founded in 1902. It is one of the first three national universities in China, located in Taiyuan, a national historical and cultural city with a history of more than 2,500 years.
1953, the school was established independently, named Taiyuan University of Technology, directly under the Ministry of Higher Education; 1962 was placed under the management of Shanxi province; 1984 was renamed Taiyuan University of Technology. 1997, Taiyuan University of Technology merged with Shanxi Mining Institute directly under the Ministry of Coal Industry (founded in 1958) to form Taiyuan University of Technology. In the same year, Taiyuan University of Technology became one of the national "2 1 1 Engineering" key universities, which opened a new chapter in reform and development.

By the end of 2002 1, the school was characterized by engineering, the combination of science and engineering, and the coordinated development of multiple disciplines, covering eight categories, including science, engineering, economics, law, teaching, literature, management and art, with 24 professional colleges and Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools1. There are four campuses in Mingxiang, Yingxi, Huyu and Berlin, covering an area of 2134,266 square meters and a total construction area of16900 square meters.
By March of 20021year, the school had 40049 full-time students, 522 international students and 388 faculty members1person. At present, there are 1 academician of China Academy of Sciences, 3 academicians of China Academy of Engineering, double-hired academicians 10, 6 distinguished professor (lecture) of Changjiang Scholar Award Program of Ministry of Education, 9 winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 15 national candidates for "Millions of Talents Project in the New Century". The school was selected as one of the top 50 universities in China's "Three-Round Education" comprehensive reform and innovation and entrepreneurship, and won the first batch of "National Civilized Campus" titles.
