Four masters of Tang poetry

Speaking of Tang poetry, people will first think of the representatives of Tang poetry, Li Bai and Du Fu. In fact, the representatives of Tang poetry are not only Li Bai and Du Fu, but also Bai Juyi and Yuan Zhen, who are called the four masters of Tang poetry by later generations.

As for Li Bai and Du Fu, there is no need to introduce them in detail. Almost all people in China know their names. Li Bai is a poet and Du Fu is a poet. One is the representative of romantic poetry, and the other is the representative of realistic poetry. Their poetic achievements are second to none in the history of China.

First, focus on Bai Juyi and Yuan Zhen, especially Yuan Zhen, because Bai Juyi's popularity is also high. He, together with Li Bai and Du Fu, is called the three great poets in the Tang Dynasty. Bai Juyi is also a realistic poet. His poems have a wide range of themes, diverse forms and simple language, and are known as "Poet Saint" and "Poet King".

Compared with Li Bai and Du Fu, Bai Juyi's achievements in poetry are slightly inferior to Du Li's, but he is far superior to Du Li in official career. Both Li Bai and Du Fu can be said to be career failures, while Bai Juyi is different. He has been an academician, Zuo Zanshan, and a doctor, and he also belongs to a senior official of the court.

Compared with Li Bai, Du Fu and Bai Juyi, Yuan Zhen's popularity is weak. However, he and Bai Juyi have been good friends for years. In those years, they went to the same school, and later * * * advocated the new Yuefu movement. They are very close and good friends. Later generations called them "Bai Yuan" and made great contributions to literature.

Yuan Zhen, like Bai Juyi, was quite successful in his official career, and even became prime minister for a time, but later angered the powerful minister and was repeatedly relegated. Yuan Zhen's poems have made great achievements, especially his Yuefu poems, which are vivid and vivid, with more than 830 existing poems. At the age of 53, Yuan Zhen suddenly died of illness. After his death, Bai Juyi wrote poems in tears and wrote an epitaph for him.
