Does the Old Testament speak of eternal life?

First, (soul-the mystery of "true self")

The logic when we speak at ordinary times can prove that people have souls. For example, when we say "this is my finger", it means that the finger belongs to me, but the finger is not "me"; Similarly, when we say "this is my body", it means that the body belongs to me, but the body is not me. Obviously, this "true self" is the inner immaterial soul-it is the master of the flesh. Of course, when we say "this is my soul", this "I" must include my body. Therefore, a complete person is composed of "body" and "soul". This is just as the Bible says.

Secondly, physiological research shows that: due to metabolism, old cells are constantly dying and new cells are constantly being produced. The cells in the whole body are updated every seven years, but the "I" in people remains the same. Therefore, a person's body at the age of 80 is completely different from that at the age of five, and it has been changed more than ten times, but the "I" inside is still the "I". Therefore, old people often like to recall their childhood scenes. This shows that the "I" in people has a permanent foundation and is not necessarily related to the gradual replacement of the changed body. It can also be inferred that once a person's body dies, the "I" inside will still care about me-this is the continued existence of the soul.

When Christians die, most of them are calm and serene, and some even have great joy and wonderful experiences. For example, if someone dies, they will tell their relatives in advance that "the savior took me home today"; Some people will see angels appear in front of them on their deathbed to pick up their souls. And a few people who don't believe in the Lord will have a premonition of "I'm leaving today" when they die, and then this statement will really come true. All these experiences show that the soul does exist. An American doctor concluded from years of clinical observation: "Everyone dies in pain, but Christians do feel happy and safe when they die, because they know that their destination is reliable."

In the Bible, Jesus, the son of God, said, "What good is it for a man to gain the whole world and lose his life (soul)?" What else can people exchange for life? "(Matt. 16: 26) Therefore, the Lord Jesus is looking at a person's soul, which is more precious than all the treasures in the world. He is even willing to give his life to buy the redeemed soul, so as not to be tortured by the devil in the underworld. How foolish it would be if we only pay attention to immediate interests and physical enjoyment during this short life of hard work and anxiety, and ignore the eternal destination of our souls in the future! What's the use if people regret making the wrong choice at that time?

Second, (the mystery of heaven and hell)

Fortunately, there are clear teachings about eternal life and judgment after death in the Bible. "According to the destiny, everyone will die, and there will be judgment after death" (Hebrews 9: 27). There are many records in the Old Testament that witness the immortality of life. In the New Testament, Jesus talked many times about eternal life, judgment day, the reward of heaven and the punishment of hell. According to statistics, one third of the thirty-six fables told by Jesus are related to God's future judgment. Of course, the most powerful evidence about life after death is that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after being crucified.

Heaven is a real place, which is what the Apostle Paul called "the third heaven". God mentioned him there. (see Cor. 12: 2 ~ 7) Some people think that the atmosphere around the earth is the first sky, and the place where stars gather is the second sky. The third day is heaven, the home of God. What is heaven like? Revelation describes the beauty of heaven with jasper wall, pearl gate and golden street, but it is difficult for us to understand the actual situation of heaven now. According to the records in the Bible, several points are relatively clear. In heaven, "there will be no more death, no more sorrow, no more crying, no more pain, because the past has passed" (Revelation 2 1: 4).

Heaven is a place where saints live together. We can not only meet our relatives who have fallen asleep in Christ, but also have friendly exchanges with the saints in the Old Testament and the New Testament, the great leaders of churches in past dynasties and believers from all sides, countries and nationalities. Heaven is a sacred and happy place, a place where people worship and serve God, and an eternal place to enjoy happiness and eternal happiness with God. Heaven is not fiction or fantasy, but a real place.

The existence of hell is as real as heaven. The Bible mentions hell many times. Hell is a place to be blamed forever, and a place where God pours his anger.
