Rumi’s most famous poem

A gift for you.

You didn’t know it would be so hard to choose a gift for you. Nothing seems to fit. Why give gold to gold mines, or water to oceans. Everything I thought about was like going to the East with spices. There is no use in giving you my heart, my soul, for you already have them. So, I brought you a mirror. Look at yourself and remember me.

I swear, I swear, because of seeing your face, the whole world becomes a lie and a dream, and the garden looks blank, not knowing what a leaf is or what a flower is. Absent-minded bird.
